Masectomy

I had a masectomy yesterday and felt well afterwards.

In hospital overnight.

Thought it was too good to be true. Today swelling and pain around drain and under arm.  I was given liquid morphine. Worried about being able to cope if they send me home today with fluid building up.

it seems everyone has a different experience with drains, time left in and how painful the removal is .

If you are not happy about going home then tell them.  I have found all the medical staff great throughout this whole process and they do listen to you.  To be honest if you have an infection or they are not happy, they are not going to let you home anyway so try to relax, let the morphine work and see what they have to say when they do their rounds.

I had my last drain in for 31 days and the removal was uncomfortable but certainly not painful, I think the relief of getting rid of it overtook any other feeling if I'm honest.

I had my mastectomy on 4th Dec and going back to hospital this morning for dressing change and fingers crossed drain removal.  The only issue I have is the "elephant" sat on my chest but hoping that eases soon.

Really hope the pain eases soon and you are told to relax and stay in hospital for another day until you are comfortable!!
