Mum has Bowel Cancer

Hi,

I've been reading through for forum during my mums wait for her results and found so much helpful, reassuring and heart-touching support and information.

A large growth was found last week during a Colonoscopy due to mum having pain in her side for quite a while which she thought was from her ovary but after her and my dad both caught a bout of stomach upset for a few days, her bowel troubles never went away and she constantly had an upset stomach. They initially completed a CT scan of her middle to get a complete view of the area and then arranged for the colonoscopy last week. She has since been for a CT of her chest area. They sat down with my parents following the colonoscopy and said they had found a growth and had taken a biopsy. We've been waiting for the results but she has been given a special nurse who she could contact. Today the nurse has called to let mum know that it is cancer and that she needs to come to hospital to discuss the results of the scans and tests and to discuss surgery Tuesday morning.

So far in 10 days since the colonoscopy we know it's cancer but no idea actually what cancer as I believe from reading there are different types of bowel cancer(?) - please do correct me if I'm completely wrong. Shes been in a lot of pain and discomfort since the colonoscopy, is that normal? 

Everyone at the moment is just carrying on because we have no choice but to wait to find out more information but I was wondering if anyone could explain bowel cancer to me so I can understand and help my parents.

    I'm sorry about the news your mum has been given. It must be hard to process without knowing all the facts but luckily Tuesday isn't too far away now.

    Hi there!

    My mum has been diagnosed a week ago with bowel cancer... we are waiting for the test results now. Feels like the hardest thing in the world.

    Hi, I am sorry to hear about your mum. I can really relate to this. My mum was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer last August. Definitely the hardest thing in the world to cope with. Mums are everything. I think the waiting part and the not knowing is most difficult. Thinking of you and your mum

    I'm sorry to hear the news about Mum.  I had no symptoms at all, only my doctor changing my tablets which constipated me did we realise something was wrong. I saw a doctor on the 05/08/19 who sent me for blood tests, went back to see the doctor 12/08/19, then had my first MIR scan 15/08/19 followed by a CT scan 16/08/19, 24/08/19 I had my first Endoscopy, 06/09/19 I was told I had Bowel Cancer.

    On  the 12/09/19 I had a Pet Scan, 13/09/19 I had my first round of Surgery where I was fitted with a Colostomy Bag,26/09/19 I had another Endoscopy, 27/09/19 I saw the Cancer Doctor and discussed Chemotherapy, 

    06/11/19 I when to see a specialist and we discussed Surgery, as it appeared that the Cancer had intruded further than we first thought,

    17/11/19 I was admitted to hospital for Surgery on the 18/11/09.

    Everything went as planned and I am now recovering at home with two Colonoscopy Bags, but I feel GREAT. On the 28/11/19 I was told that they got all the Cancer although I have got to have a small amount of Chemotherapy as a Boot and Braces exercise.

    The Hospital are ringing weekly to see how I am, I'm due back at ths hospital on 02/01/20 for a check up.

    Assure Mum that it's not as bad as she first thinks, there is a huge network of people ready to make her journey a comfortable one.
