  • Hi [@Livvy-pivvy]‍  and [@Ronnieellie]‍

I just wanted to say hi and see how you are doing? I was diagnosed yesterday with grade 1, 14mm invasive hormone positive breast cancer. Amazingly, it was found by a routine mammogram screening and has been caught early. I actually feel more positive now I know as the waiting game was killing me.

I'm just weighing up my surgery options and am due meet the breast nurse on Tuesday to finalise my decision.

Where are you both on this rollercoaster ride?

Would be nice to chat at some point x

  • Hi Ronnie

i was diagnosed with BC on the 4th Oct. I had a lumpectomy on the 13th Nov. Results on the 26th Nov. He managed to remove it all with clear margins. They removed 4 nodes and fortunately it's not in the lymph's. So all good.
however it was larger than they thought. 5cms. So now they need an onco score to be able to predict the likelihood of it coming back. If the onco score is high I will need chemo as well as radiotherapy. Well it was at that point I had my meltdown. Original plan was radiotherapy. The thought of chemo and losing my hair honestly it was awful. I had already packed in a job I loved and now this.
then I pulled myself together. This is preventative. So whatever the outcome I have to do this. So yes welcome to the roller coaster ride.   Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on. I live in the North East so I have one of the best hospitals. My team are lovely. So sending you love and hugs and let me know how you get on.

  • Sorry Caz. I got your name wrong. Xxx

  • Thanks for writing to me Sandra.

I'm currently thinking of asking for a mastectomy as I just want it dealt with without worrying about margins and it coming back. Did you consider this at all?

Two friends of mine both had chemo. One managed the cold cap and kept her hair. Both are doing fantastically well now.

    Sending support x

  • Hi Caz

My surgeon who is top notch advised against mastectomy. He said it wasn't necessary. It's normal for them to get clear margins and normally radiotherapy is enough depending on size and type. The chance of reocurance is about the same for lumpectomy and mastectomy so it is your call. I didn't get asked that choice until they had the results of biopsies back and even then the plan can change once they operate.
so it's a bit of a roller ride. I'm on a Facebook site called cancer uk. Everyone seems to have a different journey. Thanks for the advice on cold cap. It's hard so your friend did well. Where in the country do you live. I'm in South Shields in the North East. So many women with breast cancer and so many young women with young children.

    sending love.

  • Hi Sandra,

Just thought I'd check in with you and see how things are.

I now have a date of the 7th Jan for surgery and I have requested a double mastectomy. Given I have elected to have my good boob removed, I'll need a  psychological assessment! So, it's all taking a bit longer than I'd hoped but hey ho! Or should it be ho ho ho!?!

  • Hi Caz

i didn't get that choice. I was hoping for a breast reduction. My left breast is still larger than the I operated one. I had lumpectomy. All cancer removed and clear margins and not in Lymphs. However lump was 5cms. So on 14th Nov a specimen was sent to America for a score of 0-100. That will predict the likelihood of it coming back.  Once they have this score if it is over 25 then I will have to have chemo as well as radiotherapy. They said it would take about 3 weeks and that was 3 weeks today. Still no appointment through.
so I cannot see anything happening before Jan now by way of further treatment.
im pleased that you have made the right decision for you. This disease comes out of the blue and our lives are changed overnight. Hopefully we will both win this battle. Love and hugs. I will keep you posted and let me know how you get on

  • Love and hugs to you too.

We've got this! Please let me know when the score comes back. I sincerely hope it is low x
