I'm sorry to say my sister after many terminal illness stories over the years has come up with another, saying she has been told she has terminal cervical cancer, as her family we are all very sceptical,I know that sounds horrible but we've been though it a lot.

So I'm looking to find out what the process is to finding out this diagnosis. 

Her story is, she had a scan last week then she rang the doctors today for the results whom said it was private and made her an appointment same day then they told her then, it was terminal and she may have a year to live. Does this sound right, would they tell her that on her own without any more tests or trying any treatment? She has had other tests throughout the year showing nothing? Can anyone help?

    Unfortunately we get these stories a few times on here ..

    After a scan, they do a biopsy,  which takes two weeks to come through in most cases .. 

    There is a story if the lad that cryed Wolfe... he made up a story so many times, that when he told the truth, no one believed him ... but saying that , I think when anyone fakes having cancer it's either because they are crying out for affection ... get money from false cancer prognosis... or have a mental health reason ..  

    I'd ask why she has done this so many times .. what is the underlying reason ... and try to get her help .. I'm not saying she is lying, but from what you've said , there's a good possibility she's not telling the whole truth ...  maybe look up cervical cancer and do some homework on the process ..  but please try to understand and find out why ... x

    It’s incredible that anyone would make up something like this, but some people do, so as I have cervical cancer I can tell you my road to diagnosis. First, symptoms. Does she have any? Bleeding? Pain? Discharge? Has she had regular smear tests? Do you know what other tests she has had in the year?

    In my case I had an internal exam, hysteroscopy, 2 punch biopsies, an mri scan and a ct scan. Only then was I given my diagnosis. I have stage 2b, but speak to many other ladies at all stages of this disease regularly. Treatment options, depending on stage could include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy(internal radiation) a chemo cocktail, immunotherapy...

    A doctor would not diagnose terminal cancer and give a prognosis without numerous tests. Certainly not on the basis of a single scan. I feel really sorry for your family if she is lying, but think you have a lot of questions you need to be asking. xx

    The story I've had... Last week she went for a scan. In the scan they said there’s something we want to look at again, go to your doctors and they’ll book you back in. Doctors rang her and said come in today . Then today she’s gone to doctors and they've told her she is passed curing with cervical cancer and she has to go back at 9 in morning !!!

    This really doesn’t ring true at all. A consultant would have given the diagnosis of cancer, not a gp, and it would be based on multiple tests. What kind of scan did she say she had? More than one type would be standard for a diagnosis of cervical cancer-one to see where the tumour is and its size and one to establish the staging. Different types of scans completely. And a biopsy. 

    Once you have a diagnosis of cervical cancer you deal with gynaecologists, oncologists and other specialists, not your gp.
