TNBC and heart mri shows reduced function

Hi, I was diagnosed with grade 3 stage 2b triple negative breast cancer in August. I've just completed 12 weeks of taxel and carboplatin. Due to start EC next week but my heart mri showed slightly reduced function - 44.4%. My heart is also apparently slightly enlarged. I had further tests yesterday and the initial findings are that they can't find anything obvious causing it.

I'm seeing the cardiologist Monday and the oncologist Wednesday but that feels like a long time away and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of this. If they can't do ec what are they likely to do next, a different type of chemo or straight to surgery?

The tumour was 2.5cm at the start and has shrunk, it was also in one lymph node.

Also, as it's my left breast will I now now not be able to have radiation therapy?

Thank you.

    Hi Claire,

I am sorry to hear about the additional heart problems that you have. Most cancer patients have individual 'foibles' for their care team to manage. The best people to speak to about this are your care team. They have seen you, your medical history and the results of any tests that have been done. This puts them in the best position to know what you can or cannot do with regard to surgery or further treatment.

There are others on this site who have had similar problems with their heart and I hope that they will come along shortly to give you the benefit of their experience.

It sounds as if all will depend upon the results of the tests you had yesterday. I expect that you will be told the results of these on Monday. Write down any questions you have and take them with you when you go to get your results and again when you go to see the oncologist.

I sincerely hope that all is well with your tests and you can start EC as planned.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
