How were you given biopsy results?

Had a biopsy 6 days ago, was told I would be able to receive the results over the phone, have had 2 inconclusive scans and this has been going on for a while now I just want it over with! I rang today to chase results expecting them to say they wasn't back yet, instead I was told the results are back to be discussed in Fridays MDT and if I do not hear by 2pm to phone up myself for an appointment for next week, this does not sound promising to me, if it had been confirmed not cancer do they still have to discuss in a MDT? If you have received positive results how did you receive them and how long was the wait? Anyone with negative results how long did you have to wait for an appointment from the MDT/phone call?

  • Hello s1606

I know from reading the many posts here on the forum that how people are given results really does vary from one area to another and seems to have no bearing at all on whether it's positive or not so positive news. Some hospitals won't give any results over the phone and prefer to do everything face to face. Some people get results by phone or letter.

If your biopsy comes back as non cancerous then the clinicians may still want to discuss your case as it may be that some form of treatment, mangement or monitoring is appropriate.

I know you're worried but try not to read too much into things at the moment.
Hopefully you'll have some news tomorrow, if not then you'll know more at your appointment next week.
Do let us know how you get on.
    Best wishes,

  • My final results were clear and I got them at an appointment several weeks later.  The department I dealt with was reluctant for reception to give results over the phone in case of errors so I had to wait to see the specialist for results.
