Bone cancer

Hi to all

I took my beautiful 17 yr old daughter to the orthopaedic hospital 4 days ago for the result following a minor operation on her foot to remove a hard lump!
the prognosis was devastating!!!! She has "cancer" without any warning the consultant told us that her left foot needs to be amputated half way up her leg!!!! It was so matter of fact!

Im having great difficulty excepting the situation, my daughter has refused to have her foot removed! I know that she hasn't really grasped the gravity of the situation, and she's sworn me to secrecy too. Not tell her grandparents not her estranged mother.... I've told her elder sister 3 years senior and she's sworn to secrecy too....

i don't know what to do! And as the days go by and having to discuss it with the PIP office and other departments. Each time I have to explain the details I feel worse and worse, and now as I look at her I'm feeling more and more down. Who can I speak to? I need to stay strong for her but I'm starting to crack!

  • Welcome to the forum Delmonte although I'm really sorry about your daughter's unexpected news. I can see how difficult this is for you.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice but our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to talk this through with them. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

  • Delmonte, I happened to see your post because of my cancer, but I'm 62, so mine is fine. Now am going to pray for your beloved daughter. Oh, loving God heal her totally. Amen

  • Hello Delmonte

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, I can totally sympathise with you in some aspects, My 16 year old son was diagnosed with a Radial head break back in August, no follow up was given as they said this cant of break heals itself, 11 weeks later he was still in pain, returned to the walk in centre were he was told he had tendinitis.. (no xray to check the break) after another week of pain I knew something wasnt right with it, so took him A&E, they re xrayed and referred him to fractured clinic, for what we thought was the above break, to be told he has what they think is a rare malignant tumor, as you can felt yourself, the news was devastating! We are just awaiting confirmed biopsy results to see what's next, amputation has been mentioned, and like your daughter, my son is refusing, its utterly heartbreaking, I have the same feeling you are experiencing, it's so hard xx

  • Sorry just realised your post is from the end of oct, I really hope things have gone well for you all xx
