My dad has just been diagnosed with lung cancer today

Hi all. Today I had the worse news possible. My dad has cancer..! I’m just beyond shocked and scared and absolutely devastated. He lives with me as I had noticed this cough 5 months ago. Iv nagged his gp again and again and demanded xrays three different times. Iv had no results back to say anything was wrong. His hip has been killing him. Took him for X-rays. Again. Nothing come back apparently. His bloods came back twice with low sodium which I now know is a clue. For the last month he has not been walking properly doubly incontinent and getting sick when he coughed. Made a gp appointment 3 weeks ago. It was the earliest I could get. And it was for today. He didn’t need it in the end. 2 days ago he couldn’t stand at all and I decided enough was enough and against his wishes called an ambulance. Afternoon 24 hour shift inn  hospital trolley in the hallway with 50 other poor elderly patients. Then another 24 hours in assement still on the trolly. He was moved up to the word. They had done a ct scan. It showed a mass on his lung. She said definitely cancer . Then they took him for an mri. It’s no way come back that he has 7 spot so on his spine. That is paralysing him. One is pressing on his spinal cord hence why he can’t control toilet needs. He also has spots on his ribs. Kidneys. Lungs. And now to his brain.!!! Can he get over this? Will he die? If so how fast. I honestly think I can’t cope

  • Hi, I am so sorry that you are going through this! I found out 6 weeks ago that my dad (58) has cancer of the oesopagus with 4 metastases in his spine. He is in a lot of pain in his back as 2 of the tumours are pressing on spinal nerves. My dad has been given 6 months to a year to live! He only got married the week before diagnosis so this truly is a heart breaking time. I am sending positive thoughts to you and your dad and lots of love x

  • Hi. I am so very sorry. It’s such a lot to deal with. And we are not the ones who have it so I can only imagine what it is like for them. Lots of love to u all. Xx
