Lung cancer EBUS results.

It all started 6 weeks ago when my absolutely fantastic Mum's chest X-ray showed abnormal pulmonary tissue. Blood tests and a CT scan followed and we went to see Mum's doctor at the hospital where she was advised that her CT scan had discovered a 6.5cm tumour on her left lung but no evidence it was in her lymph nodes or anywhere else. Although a large tumour, we we're thankful that it was just one and at that point we believed there was no evidence it was in LNs. The doctor said that Mum would have a bronchoscopy/biopsy and a breathing test next, however a PET scan was arranged and then an EBUS. Mum had the EBUS (biopsies taken from 3 areas) yesterday and today received a call to say she could see her doctor tomorrow for results. Very quick results so I'm wondering is this good or bad, or the norm? Also now we are thinking the PET scan may have shown LN issues (even though the CT scan didn't) and that's why bronchoscopy changed to PET and EBUS? Has anyone experienced similar, maybe CT scan showed LNs OK and PET or EBUS showed otherwise?
Sorry to babble on ..... any advice welcomed.
Thank you.

  • Hello Joanne...Blue,

Poor you  and your poor mum so much seems to have happened in just the space of six weeks. It seems that things have been moving pretty fast and it is good that the doctors are taking things seriously and being thorough in their investigations. How did the appointment with the doctor go? Did you get more details about the results of the EBUS?

I hope that you will hear from some of our members who have experienced something similar before and that they will be able to tell you more about the process they themselves went through.

Our nurses are only a free phone call away if you need to talk to someone about all this. You can ring them on 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Best wishes to you and your mum,
