Private Hospital? - Groin Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy SLNB

Hello everyone, my wife and I really need some help in finding a private hospital experienced in groin sentinel lymph node biopsies(SLNB).

Unfortunately she was diagnosed with Vulvar cancer, it is relatively small but still deep enough to require Lymph node surgery. Our local NHS have said they may not offer an SLNB and may want to take all the lymph nodes out immediately. Having done ALOT of reading, this seems to be extreme given the size and therefore we want an SLNB as a first step.

Can anyone reccomend a private hospital or surgeon experienced in these operations or how we go about finding one. Nuffield switch board have been useless so far and we have been getting passed from pillar to post.

any help would be appreciated as we are starting to panic a little bit.

kind regards

Andy

  • Hello Andy,

A warm welcome to our forum! I am very sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis and I hope that you manage to find a hospital that offers SLNB as a first step.

Unfortunately as mentioned in our terms and conditions , we don't allow hospitals or healthcare professionals to be named or recommended on Cancer Chat. I am really sorry about this  but I thought I would share some useful information with you which hopefully will help you a little.

We have a detailed section on our website on vulval cancer which you can access on this page which I hope will be useful to you. We also have information here comparing NHS treatment with private treatment which may be of interest to you as well as this page on getting a second opinion which may be something to consider in your case.

Perhaps you could also give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they may have some useful suggestions for you to help you look for the information you need or at least point you in the right direction.

Hopefully you will also hear from some of our other members who have been affected by vulval cancer and they will come and share their experiences with you.

Very best wishes to you and your wife,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Oops. Thanks for the reply. We would still be grateful if people could share their experiences in this post on how they went about finding a private specialist. On top of the generic advice, we are finding reading people’s personal stories very helpful and supportive...

    Kind Regards
