Hodgkins lymphoma

Hi all,

I just thought I would post a bit about my recent diagnosis of the type of cancer called Hodgkins Lymphoma, which I found out I had just Friday afternoon. A couple of months ago I noticed a swelling in the left side of my neck which looked noticeably different to my right side, which I shrugged off as I thought it may have been a work related strain. Not long after, I notcied a few smaller, almost grape sized lumps higher up, one on my throat, and another around the jaw bone. Thinking that didn't look right, I went to the GP, and he told me it was swollen lymph glands, and put it down to either an infection or cancer.

I've had 6weeks of not knowing the cause, but now that I finally know what is going on, I can get the ball rolling on getting the treatment I need to get myself better.

  • Hey  :)

I know you must be feeling terrrible at the moment, but my advice would be to try not to worry too much until you know what is going on. After being told by the Dr the first time that "it may be cancer", naturally I was devastated. And, like I said, I had almost 6 weeks of not knowing, before I was diagnosed. So try and not to worry too much, as it sounds like you may have a lot to deal with soon and you don't weant to make yourself ill with worry, (easier said than done).

My swollen glands are in the neck and collarbone area, which I thought could have been work related as I was turning my head a lot for my job so I put off going to the GP (typical bloke!) but it was when i saw a couple of bumps further up that I thouught didn't look right so got checked out.

After a bit of confusion with dates, I have an appointment this afternoon at some point to have my port taken out and a line put in, which sounds sketchy but should be ok.

Fingers crossed for you guys, again I hope it's not anything serious and if I can help in anyway, even if it's having someone to talk to then drop me a line

    :)

  • Hello,

thank you so much for your response. I am sorry you are going through this too and I hope your appointment goes well today.

yes it's really hard not to worry. He has just found another lump under his ear so again we are very scared. That would be great if we could stay in contact! Thank you so much for all of your help and I will keep you updated with what the ENT says tomorrow. Did you have any more symptoms apart from the lumps?

    thanks again! Really appreciate it!

  • Hi there

So, my plans have been changed  :(

The results of my PET scan has shown "mixed results" which means I have 1 or 2 more affected lymph glands, meaning my transplant has had to be postponed and a third go at chemo. I know I should be still be trying to stay positive, but I can't help thinking that it's not going to go my way. The type of cancer that I haveis supposed to be a commonly curable one, however this will be my third course of chemo before (if can have it) the stem cell transplant.

No, I didn't really have any other symptoms. other than the lumps/swelling and tiredness which i put down to a change of job situation. I hope ENT went ok, and as always here if you guys want a chat

    :)
