Has anyone had a portacath in the upper arm, instead of the chest?
All the leaflets seem to say it can be in either, but our surgeon said she'd never heard of it, and said we must be talking about a PICC line. Here's an example of a mention of the upper arm placement: www.clatterbridgecc.nhs.uk/.../You_and_your_Totally_Implanted_Vascular_Access_Device_TIVAD_-_Portacath_A5_V2.pdf
I'd have thought it would result in less visible scarring of the chest, which might act as a reminder of the cancer, and also seems to have a better complication profile (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/.../).
Is this an option in the UK? Is sedation necessary?
