Mum has been diagnosed with Stage 2B Lung Cancer

Hi all,

My 63 year old mum has been diagnosed with Stage 2B non-small cell lung cancer (adenocarcinoma).  She was experiencing pain around her diaphragm in August but just by accident they detected a small shadow in her lung and since then she's been having various appointments (PET scans, biopsy's etc).

She has two tumors in her upper right lobe (20mm x 8mm and 8 x 4mm).  She's a life long smoker unfortunately, but is looking to quit for good now.

The doctor says its operable but is first going to ask her to undergo a stress test on an exercise bike to see if she is fit enough to have the operation.  Does anyone know what this is?  If she fails she will have to undergo radiotherapy instead.  Is the threshold for passing it high?

  • Hi SharpshooterTom,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your mum.

Unfortunately I'm not able to advise on the stress test. If you would like to discuss this with our nurses who may be better placed to help, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Wishing both you and your mum all the best,
