Advise... Thalamic Glioma

My best friends father has been told he has a grade 3/4 Thalamic Giloma. They cannot operate but want to do a biopsy before they see if they will give radio. 6 weeks ago he was perfectly fine. 4 weeks ago he quit smoking and drink just because and became slow and tired, then 2 weeks ago he started forgetting things like duck ti get in the car, how to put a seatbelt on or use a phone. He has been told several time what the issue is but the next day he forgets but knows there is something wrong. Anyone have any advise if we should put him through the biopsy or should we just wait and enjoy the time? Has anyone had anyone in this position? Thanks

  • Hello Clare88,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear that you best friend's father has been diagnosed with Grade 3/4 Thalamic Glioma. I think if the medical experts have recommended a biopsy, it's because they think it would be helpful and would help them determine the best course of treatment to follow in this specific case and whether for example radiotherapy would be suitable. This is obviously a difficult decision to take and I hope that your friend can get further guidance on this from the medical team who is looking after his/her father. Our nurses are also only a free phone call away if you want to talk things through with them. You can ring them on 0808 800 4040 (or give your friend their phone number) and their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope your best friend is ok and if he or she ever wants to come and talk to others on Cancer Chat who have been affected by this type of cancer we are always here to listen. Hopefully you will hear from some of our other members who have been in a similar position before.

    Best wishes,
