MRI scan

Hi. I was told I had cervical cancer 2 weeks ago and had a Lletz procedure straight away. I then had an MRI and am awaiting my follow up. On the day of my MRI the radiographer said they are doing a cervical scan and all went as I predicted for about 30 mins.....but then he came back in and said they are just going to do a few more of my chest! If they had said they were doing both at the beginning I wouldn't have thought anything, but why add the extra area? Or did he just not mention it? I feel positive but this is the only niggle I have! Can a radiographer take further images if they feel it is needed?

Tell me I'm over thinking this?

  • Hi

the person that does the scan is a technician and follows the instructions of the consultant. Therefore I feel they just forgot they also had to do the chest area. My MRI also did the chest area in order to stage the breast cancer, thankfully mine was clear of any disease. Try not to get worried about it.

  • Hi Btfly

i have cervical cancer and exactly the same thing happened to me! Thought it would be just the abdomen, consultant didn’t mention anything else, but when I went in the radiographer said the scan would stop after the abdomen and then they would do chest. I panicked but they told me this was routine. I wish my consultant had mentioned it just so I would have been prepared. My scan was clear. Best wishes for your results. xx

  • Hi there, I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis.  But yes, I think this is a fairly routine procedure as I had an MRI for my pelvic area and my letter informed me it would be pelvis then when I was about to go into the machine I was told abdomen and chest also x

  • Thanks so much, had my Consultant appointment and am booked for hysterectomy in 2 weeks! Cancer...... be gone :-) all the best to you x

  • Hi Btfly

It’s good you can have surgery...well, it’s never good having to have an operation, but hopefully this will be all you need and you’ll get rid. I wasn’t able to have a hysterectomy due to my stage, but did chemo and radio and got the all clear in April, so hope it stays that way! Best wishes for your op. xx
