Tonsil cancer

Hi everyone, just found this site, and I couldn't believe how many people has this.

i went to my doctors 4 weeks ago for my diabetic check up, and I had felt a small lump in my throat about a week previous, I asked her if she could have a quick look, on doing this she sai she couldn't see anything and would refer me to the ENT, the following morning I had a call from the ENT asking me to go in, this I did, he inspected my throat, put a camera up my nose, then basically told me he suspected cancer on one tonsil, a week later I was in surgery to remove my tonsil, but the surgeon explained the when he lo oks in my throat, if he don't see anything untoward s he would remove them both, when I came round after surgery I was told he had only removed one tonsil, THE GOOD ONE, and he had taken biopsy from the bad one ,and surrounding area,s I've within a week I have to go in for mri scan, Tuesday I have to go for an jelly scan, and Thursday I have to have a ct scan, then I will get the final result, my wife did some research on google, and it said it is caused by a sexually transmitted disease, now she won't come near me.

thank you sorry it was a bit long, I will keep you updated nex week.

  • Hi Hazel

not good news I expected that though I have stage 3 throat cancer and apparently I’ve had it for years it has been lying dormant in my body for years I have to go to one hospital tomorrow and they are taking out 5 five of my teeth then I have to go back to another hospital on Friday morning then next week I have to go and have a mask made for the radiotherapy then they have to put a tube into my stomach to feed me as I won’t be able to eat or drink then I have to go to the cancer hospital every day for the next six weeks for radiotherapy, but they did say I have an 80% chance of a full recovery.

And on the Bright side din wales do well this morning, xx

  •  Hiya, got my results today,

not good news I expected that though I have stage 3 throat cancer and apparently I’ve had it for years it has been lying dormant in my body for years I have to go to the hospital tomorrow and they are taking out 5 five of my teeth then I have to go back to another hospital Friday morning then next week I have to go and have a mask made for the radiotherapy then they have to put a tube into my stomach to feed me as I won’t be able to eat or drink then I have to go to the cancer hospital  every day for the next six weeks, but they did say I have an 80% chance of a full recovery.

And on the Bright side din wales do well this morning, xx

  • It’s half the battle knowing what you are dealing with. Did they tell you they are treating your cancer as curable?

Where you are now is where my husband was and we’ve done the same as you.

You have got this, you are going to fight this, you are going to stay determined and every day go to that hospital and have your therapy.

The peg in your stomach is nothing to be afraid of, you will only use it when it’s too difficult to swallow, they are straight forward to use and nobody will know you have one.

Are you having chemo as well as radiotherapy?

You are going to get through this in the grand scheme of things it’s a short time and we will all be here to support you!!

    Stay Strong xx

  • The odds are in your favour. The next couple of weeks are frenetic, hospital visits, tests, mask making and peg insertions!!

But we’ve got you and will be here to hold your hand and guide you through it!

    Don’t be afraid

  • Hi yes they said I have an 80% chance they will cure it, and no chemotherapy I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I respect, that they are the professionals.

thank you for your reassuring comments.

  • My husband did 7 weeks of daily radiotherapy and had 3 rounds of chemo. This last lot has really knocked him off his feet, but if it has killed the cancer then it’s been worth it.

just a waiting game now for us.

How old are you?? (If that’s not too rude a question to ask a gentleman)

    here if you need anything!

Best of luck for tomorrow having your teeth out

  • I'm 67 at the moment hope your husband it doing his best to remain positive, I can only imaging what he, going through

    speak soon x

  • Thank you, not looking forward to it x
