Lung cancer and secondary bone cancer. Mum of 2.

I was hoping for some advice from people that might have gone through a similar thing. My sister is in her esrly 30s and has 2 very young children, one child is very unwell and needs full time care. She had a bad hip for the last few months. We all thought it was due to her being sat in hospital for months with her poorly newborn and we didnt think too much off it. Last week we wouldnt have expected in a million years what was shortly to come. She had a scan result back and was told she had deposits on her bone and that it was certainly cancer and certainly secondary. A further scan has now shown the primary cancer in her lung. That is all they will tell us. They are putting a plate in her hip today to stop it breaking and doing a biopsy. They are saying its very serious but wont say if there is hope or not. I have looked online and I can only find professional websites that all say terrible things and all seem to be negative and eradicate all hope, like it is the worst type of cancer she could have now that its in the bone too and that any hope is less than 5% over 12 months. Can this be right? Has anyone else experienced this and was cured or prolonged life by 10 or more years? Really hoping for some hope to hold onto at this time.

  • Hello I am sorry to hear the diagnosis but don't give up hope even it's serious. Please don't Google too much I used to do it and there is only bad news out there.

My situations is   bit different but just wanted to support you..I am only 42 and this is my second battle with cancer.I have primary breast and secondary lung.Or opposite. My "clever" doctors couldn't decide which way around for 2 months. So I don't know which one is primary.

Anyway I was diagnosed when I started to cough in January and didn't go away.I was coughing so badly I couldn't walk and was spitting phlegm and beeing sick after food.

8 weeks ago started weekly Paclitaxel and I have stopped coughing and I can exercise now, walk long distances and eating with no problems.Feeling really well. The lump in my breast is smaller.so the chemo it's working.

Have you tried to ask them about some trial immunotherapy?

I begun be sick in January I am still here and feeling ok so please don't read the statistics.I hope it helped a little bit.
