Genetic testing???

Has anyone been diagnosed and then been sent a letter for genetic testing based on their results? I’ve been totally fine with my diagnosis up until now. Feeling a bit teary and praying it’s not genetic. I have 4 sisters a brother and 3 children myself. I can handle this I’m managing and doing fine but getting myself all worked up now thinking please don’t get anyone else

  • Hi,

I was diagnosed in June this year, with breast cancer and 15 yrs ago I lost my sister to breast cancer, aged 32. Things have moved on so much over the past 15 years and luckily I have a very positive outcome. Due to my sister having it so young, I did have to complete a family history form and it highlighted breast cancer on my mum’s side of the family. The consultant is quite confident that it isn’t genetic due to the type of cancers we have/had but they want to investigate it further. I am pleased actually as I have a younger sister and the consultant has said that she would now be highlighted as being a moderate risk and could actually ask her GP to put her on tamoxifen if she was worried. It also means my nieces will all be screened more often. So I am pleased they are looking into the genetic side to help prevent other family members having to go through this.
