Glioma grade one

Please, has anyone any positive stories about gliomas. I don't need to be told the negatives as fully aware of them. Thank you

  • Hello Jkh,

I hope you will hear from other members of our forum who have positive stories to share about Grade 1 gliomas. If you click on 'Seach forum' which is located on the blue banner at the top and type the keywords 'low grade glioma', you will be able to find other threads from members who have previously written about glioma before. Feel free to respond to any thread which you feel would be relevant or of interest to you.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - feel free to give them a call Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and ask them questions you may have about gliomas.

We also have general information on our website on gliomas which you can find here

Hopefully someone who has a positive glioma experience to share will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • I've only just joined the forumlooking for other people with low grade gliomas and saw  your post,I was diagnosed with a low grade brainstem glioma in 1994.Any information I come across always relates to children ,not adults. There doesn't seem to be much out there for adults.I have progressive weakness on my left side, breathing and swallowing are affected, also get a tickly cough.I do hope I may be of help but if this is an intrusion I sincerely apologise,Carole

  • Hi Carole

I have just read your post. My mum has just been told she has a Glioma Tumour although we are not sure of the grade yet as she has not had a biopsy yet. My mum was refered for a scan only because of a voice tremor, but she also has a dry tickley cough. My mums Glioma is apparently diffuse so it has spread across her temporal lobe so they cannot operate . She is unsure if she should have the biopsy because if the risks involved , has your brain tumour stayed the same in this time frame ? I hope you do not mind me contacting you. I am just desperate for more information so she can make an informed decision.

  • Hi,Carole here,I had 3 biopsies but the glioma is too deeply embedded to get any out but I'm glad I had them,my mobility has decreased but I'm still standing and walking, after a fashion. I wasn't given much info at the time as not much was known,so I was told.I have found out most thiongs through my own reseatrch, I,too have a tickly cough, some difficulty swallowing, sometimes, all signs I recognise in myaself. My brain is still active,I'm still very much awareI do a lot of crosswords to prove to myself  my brain isn't letting me down entirely.I firdst had problems with a slight tremor in my left index finger in my  middle forties.I will be 72 this year, still going.Whatever your mum decides I wish yoiu and your family well for the future,Good luck,Carole

  • Thank you Carole, this is a huge help. I am so glad to here you are still going strong. So from your point of view the Biopsy is not to bad ? My mum is terrified she will be awake for it. And of course she is worried about the risk involved . Kind regards Amanda

  • I was awake for one of them.Do you remember when we used to pretend to crack an egg on someone's head,.it is a little like that but with a bit more pressure
