Breast cancer grade 2

I am 2 weeks in to getting the news, I am in total shock, I’m 41, the plan is to have around 18 weeks of chemo to shrink, lump is around 5cm, then surgery then radiotherapy, they said it doesn’t look like in my lymph nodes (doesn’t look like?) surely they need to test them before they operate in around 22 weeks, I had a ct scan yesterday, if they are in lymph nodes will it show on that? So many people seem to of had a biopsy from there nodes? I’m in bits, can slowly feel depression setting in, I’m usually such a positive person but I’m terrified...

  • Hi Emma

I’m sorry you find yourself here but there are some great ladies on here that can offer support. I was diagnosed with grade 2 last year although I didn’t need chemo. My understanding is that CT scan is used to see if cancer has spread to lymph nodes. Although my lymph nodes were clear I didn’t know for sure until they were removed at the same time I had my lumpectomies. So I didn’t have a biopsy prior to surgery.

It’s normal to be scared, I know I was but once the treatment got underway and I knew what was happening that fear disappeared and my full focus was getting through the treatment.

im a year post surgery and 8 months post rads - life is getting back to normal and I’m healthy. It’s all doable. You’ll get through this x

  • Hi Emma,

I was diagnosed in July. I am 48 yrs old and have been diagnosed with grade 2 lobular cancer. I had 2 tumours which totalled an area of 5cm. When I had an ultrasound scan it showed there wasn’t anything major in my lymph nodes and when I had surgery they tested a couple of my sentinel nodes. 1 clear, 1 with a few rogue cells but they weren’t  concerned about that so didn’t need total node clearance. I am sure they will do the same thing when you have your surgery. They warned me that if the couple of sentinel nodes had cancer in, they would do a total anxillery clearance during the op. This is when they remove them all from under your arm. You’ve got this! We are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for so big girl pants pulled up and fighting mode selected. Good luck! Xx

  • Hi Emmai

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It’s completely understandable to feel how you are feeling, it’s a bit of a rollercoaster isn’t it.

I am 43 and have grade 3 BC with lymph node involvement, my lump was between 7-10cm, massive according to my oncologist!  I have the same treatment plan as you, I have my 6th cycle of chemo next week. I met my oncologist at cycle five and my surgeon yesterday and neither of them can find the lump, so I am awaiting MRI results to confirm it’s size but it looks like it’s completely responded to chemo.

I will have my op in 5/6 weeks time and then radiotherapy.  I share this because I would never have thought I could get through chemo when I was diagnosed and all I could think about was not being here for my two children . But here I am almost finished chemo.

You can do this, it’s ok to feel low, but when you’re ready there’s loads of lovely people on here who will support you through this.

    take care

  • Wow that disappeared quickly, I start chemo on Friday, does it really make you feel that bad? I’m actually looking forward to starting so at least I’m not just in limbo. Good luck with the rest of your treatment. Emma xx
  • Thank you for answering, I got my ct results & they say it doesn’t look like it’s spread, I’m so pleased you are out the other side & just I’m also like you in the future.

    Xx

  • Thank you so much, I hope you are doing well? Such a rollercoaster of emotions.

  • Hi Emma,

I’m not too bad. Had an appointment last Tuesday with my consultant to get results of my op and found out that not all my margins were clear so had to go back in on Friday for another op. Not back now till the 24th for results of that and hopefully to find out my treatment plan. Only just went back to work last week and now signed off again!! Hope all goes well on Friday xx

  • Hi Emma

Glad to hear it hasnt spread. I have every confidence you'll get through this also. If it helps then keep posting, this forum helped me get through it x

  • hi

Everyone is different but I haven’t found chemo too bad. The first three I slept more than usual, had heartburn and my tastebuds went as well as my hair. Round 4 and 5, I’ve been a lot more tired, with achy joints (I have painkillers for this so it’s manageable), taste buds gone again. And it’s taken me a couple of weeks to pull my self round rather than a week with the first three.

Glad to hear it hasn’t spread. Hope your chemo goes ok on Friday.

  • Hi woollylamb

I'm currently at the beginning of my breast cancer journey and petrified. Ive seen a few posts of yours and I just wondered how you were getting on? My lump is about the same size as yours.
