Neuroendocrine tumour on pancreas and liver

Hi I have been recently been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine tumour on pancreas which has metastasis to liver.

My consultant has told me that no surgical procedure option is available to me or chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  I would like to know if this is because of age 70, I am in general good health apart from Hypertension and do long walks 5-6 miles 4 days per week.

The only treatment I am receiving is a analogue therapy ( Lanreotide) injection every 28 days also Octreotide scan and Chromogranin-A bloods.

I would like to know if this is the only treatment available to patients such as myself.

I feel fine at the moment and if it wasn't for what the doctors have said I wouldn't know I have cancer.  I went to doctors at first because of recurrent diarrhoea which now seems to have stopped because of Lanreotide injection.

Please can you give me more information as I will be seeing the N.E.T nurse for next injection.

  • My partner has stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has also spread to liver. He has diabetes too . And since diagnosis has had multiple mini strokes and DVT . He has been given chemo. He is 60. Not sure if chemo working,  although have scan  Tuesday to see. The chemo has made him go from quite energetic to bed ridden. Chemo isn't always the best for some people . I do hope you stay feeling well and that you get the help you need .

  • Thanks for your reply, I'm sorry about the treatments that your partner has to go through and the worry you and your family have to go through.  Just too make it clear I have faith in my consultant and I'm not in any hurry to take chemotherapy or radiotherapy as both my sister's had these treatments and I saw what it did to them. Both of them died eventually.

The only reason I asked this question is I was surprised that this treatment or surgery has been ruled out and as I will be seeing the N.E.T staff shortly again and want more information to ask questions.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

    Yours sincerely

    David.

  • Surgery is generally ruled out if cancer in the tail of the pancreas as it close to liver .

  • Thanks that makes sense as the pancreatic tumour has metastasized to my liver.
