Hpv

Hi there

I have had a smear and my results have come back and say I am HPV positives and abnormal cells.

I am worried about the HPV it never showed in my last smear and I have only had one sexual partner.

is my husband cheating??

I have been with him over 9years married for 4 and have two beautiful children, I am getting all upset about it and don't know how to tell him how I feel

  • Hi Sazishhy

First of all, absolutely it does NOT mean that your husband is cheating. If you have abnormal cells, you can expect to have the hpv virus, which something like 4 out of 5 people have. You can get it from sexual contact, so if either of you have had any sexual contact with another person in your lives, you could have contracted it then.

The virus can “clear” from your system in the sense that the body’s immune system can suppress it and it goes dormant. If that happens, then it would give a negative result on a test. However you will always have the virus in your system, and if your immune system is reduced the virus can be active and then will show as a positive test.

The severity of the abnormal cells will determine the treatment you have, but please don’t spend time worrying that your husband has cheated on you. Focus on getting treatment to get rid of the abnormal cells and being able to get on with your life. xx
