Breast cancer stage 1

Hi,operation last Wednesday, lumpectomy of 7mm size and nodes all clear, what can I expect next and need to try and stop these tears, should I be happy with the results? So scared of going through Radiotherapy I expect...

im 64 years old just and love my family but this has knocked me for 6 and all confidence has gone....

  • I’d like to point you to a YouTube video on radiotherapy, the more you become familiar with it the easier the whole rads thing will become. So suggest you watch this over and over again to desensitise yourself from the fear you have.

    m.youtube.com/watch

I was alone for a couple of minutes but it didn’t feel like I was alone as they do talk to you while they are out of the room. In fact if they didn’t tell me they were leaving the room I wouldn’t know that they had left. They will also play music while your in there and you can bring your own if you wanted to. The key to this is to close your eyes and relax, go (in your mind) to your happy place. Before you know it it’ll be all over and you’ll get up and get on with your day.

Good luck with the dress changes tomorrow, it’s up to you if you want to look at the wound or not, perhaps, like me, you’d want to do that in the privacy of your own home and in your own time - it’s entirely up to you.

what you are experiencing in your breast is healing, it’s your nerve ends connecting again which brings feeling back into the breast - isn’t the human body amazing :)

    Hugs xx

  • Hi Maggie,

What a great idea, thanks for that I will do that!!

Feeling reassured that’s what it is,pleased it’s healing..... yes body is amazing and wonderful in its own way.....

knowing me when I get there I will want to look as I’m nosey and know the sooner I look and accept the change the better....

    Much love xxxx

  • Hi Jackie,

just wondering how you got on today? x

  • Hi Maggie,

All good, healing well that no dressings on at all now!!

Did look at scar and it’s a neat line, low down like in the creases.....so can wash it gently now.

The lymph nodes one has been sorer and the plaster was creased which has made under my arm a bit red but it’s off too!!

    Any advice on washing?

Thank you for being so caring and support Love Jackie xxx

  • Hi jackie

all sounds good, so the scar will be hidden in the crease? My lymph node scars still give me pain. The scar tissue is pulling them inwards. As for washing, I didn’t do anything special other than use unperfumed body wash and had plenty of oat baths. I also had dressings on for about a month as they were silicon and helped heal and fade scars. It took about a month to get feeling back in my underarms so had to be careful with hair removal.

always here if you need advice/support x

  • Hi Maggie,

looks like it will be hidden but I’m not worried about that at all,it really didn’t look nowhere near as bad as I thought,it’s the lymph nodes one that is sorer...

Thankfully I’ve alaways used sugaring so now don’t grow underarm hair

ive no dressings on at all now apart from that paper type stuff to keep stitches clean I guess

    Hi Jackie,

I'm delighted to hear that you got your dressings off today and, that your wounds don't look bad at all. It is 10 years since I had my lymph nodes removed underarm and, I still find this area tender at times.

I used fresh cotton wool ball to wash my scars at first, to prevent any infection occurring from reusing a face flannel.

    Kind regards

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Lovely,

Was surprised that they didn’t recover but what do I know!!

ive got Cotton Wool Balls and other cotton wool so Thanks for that I’ll definitely be using and also unperfumed shower gel for a while.Yes underarms are sore but maybe trying to do much, not really Hubby won’t let me.... Was also good to learn that the reason I’m still so tired is that having MS the anaesthetic takes a lot longer to come out of my system...

Hoping that tonight I may sleep better and not think about the C as it’s not in my body anymore it’s Gone!!!

    Much love

  •

    Hi Jackie,

Better to let the air at your skin, in preference to keeping it covered up.

I'm glad to hear that hubby is making sure that you don't overdo things. It can take a long time for the tiredness to lessen. Your MS may slow thigs further for you, so you'll just have to give into it and listen to your body. We all seem to react differently with tiredness. Mine was complete exhaustion which lasted for 6-7 years. I still get tired, but nothing like I used to do.

You've got the right outlook. The cancer is no longer there. It's gone and, here's hoping that it stays away!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

im good at talking the talk but still petrified of the damn radiotherapy and to have to go in that CT scan again.... panic mode...

We are not going to get this again ever ever ever...

land thanks for the reassurance that this tiredness is normal plus I feel wobbly and my confidence has gone, bring our MoJo back!!!

    Lots love
