Dad has blood cancer - very worried

My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer of the blood. Two lumps found above and below the diaphragm. He's had the ct scan. Haemotology appointment next week. When will we know more e.g. If its spread and what type of cancer it is. We are guessing it's lymphoma atm. I'm sick with worry.

  • Hi Maccyb,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your dad. You will likely find out more at the haemotology appointment, although I can't say for sure exactly what they'll say or whether you'll get any final results. You can find out more about the process of CT scans here.

Try to make a note of any questions you or your dad would like to know the answers to so that you can raise them during the appointment. It can also be a good idea to make notes during the appointment. Sometimes it can be easy to forget things at the time.

In the meantime try to distract yourself and keep yourself busy so as not to dwell on the appointment too much. I know this is often easier said than done.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Ah thank you so much for the response. I'm trying to distract myself but it's so hard it's constantly on my mind. Read lots of positive stories more so than negative and my friend is 3 years clear of stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma so lots of positive things to try and focus on. I. Just feel in limbo at the moment. We are incredibly close so I'm a bit lost. Hoping for positive news soon. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

  • Glad to hear you have positive things to focus on. It's perfectly natural and understandable how you're feeling. Hopefully it's helpful to write things down on this forum and do feel free to use it for support.

All the best for next week,
