Hi, my mum was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in April. She had her thyroid removed in May and is now waiting for the next stage of treatment which is the radioactive iodine tablet and then checks every 9months. My mum was recovering well and we were thankful as a family, as explained by the oncologist consultant thyroid cancer is non aggressive and you can live a long normal live with thyroid cancer. However 2 weeks after the operation, my mum has been suffering with lower back pain after 2 weeks of visits to the GP who assumed it was muscular and prescribed painkillers. The pain wasn’t easing and my mum started to also have a urine infection. After 3 urine tests which showed signs of blood, she was referred for a scan on the kidneys and a cystolcopy. On the day of both my mum had her scan and the nurses informed her during the cystolcopy she would receive the results. However during the cystolcopy they spotted a circle of blood which they said would need to be investigated further. The results from the scan came back fine. She has a biopsy on 6th August. The GP also sent her for an ultra sound last week where photographs of all her organs (not the heart) were taken and she gets those results this Friday. The reason for the post was to ask if anyone else has been through this course of treatment and what were the results and also to ask from everyone else’s experiences if this seems the right course of action or if there is anything else we should be pushing or asking for? Thank you for reading.
