Dad has bowel cancer

Hi , 

a couple of weeks ago we found our Dad has bowel cancer after having no symptoms and being picked up from a bowel screening test. We were even more shocked that it has spread to liver. Which I’m guessing makes it stage 4

He is having bowel surgery in a few weeks time and then they predict 6 weeks of chemo then as it is only 2 leisons in the liver, they are doing a liver resection.

Everywhere I read it states that this isn’t curable! I’m scared my mum is not telling me the realistic truth. Any similar cases would be helpful to hear about.

    Hi Sarah, 

    My Dad also has/had bowel cancer with liver mets. 

    He has had operation that’s successfully removed these affected areas. 

    However when operating they found it had grown up duodenal wall. 

    Now oncologist tells us we have been mislead & theres no more cancer. Absolute head spinner! 

    My findings are they tend not to stage bowel cancer the same way as others. 

    Also have been told today that once apon a time it’s wasn’t great news but now there’s alot can be done. 

    I cant say if a cure can be promised but they can take away & shrink tumours now to give up to 5 years. 

    Oncologists words today its not all doom & gloom nowadays. 

    Keep strong & have hope , without hope where are we ‍♀️.
