Good and bad news - Removal of para ortic lymph nodes

My mum had her scan today and its not extremely good news. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year march. She first went through radiotherapy l. Her post 3 month pet scan showed a swollen lymph node so she was recommended to go for 6 cycles of chemo. She did those cycles and she had her pet scan last week. She saw the Dr today and he said that the lymph node reduced from 17mm to 14mm.There is also a lymph node nearby with SUV uptake and he saw a mass on one of her ovaries and he can't tell what it is. He recommended surgery to remove the two lymph nodes and then radiation. Has anyone removed lymph nodes in the para aortic region? What are the side effects? Is it wise to do a biopsy first? I am trying to remain sane by looking at the good news. She has no tumor, all her organs are okay and at least the lymph node shrunk.

  • Hi Pls,

There are a lot of posts on the forum about lymph node removal so hopefully those members who have had them removed from the para aortic region will pop by when they can to share their advice and experiences with you.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to talk things through with them as well. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

Continue concentrating on the positives and best wishes to your mum.

    Kind regards,
