Just diagnosed at 34 with Breast Cancer

Hi there,

I was told on Friday that I had Breast Cancer, completely shocked and feel heartbroken, I have a 22 month old daughter and can’t explain the depth of pain I feel.

I didn’t go with anyone to get biopsy results, as previously, I was given feedback that the lump found looked like and felt like fibrodemena it was only the biopsy which confirmed it was cancer.

Waiting for more test results and for an MRI. To confirm all results. Initially I have been told it’s hormone receptive and grade 2 invasive inductal cancer, really hoping that someone can reassure me that I can get through this and share any feedback if you have been in a similar situation. I keep having breakdowns and feel I need to get a grip.

  • That’s brilliant news re your results! I didn’t have the oncotype test either, just straight on with the tamoxifen and 15 sessions of radiotherapy which I finished 2 weeks ago today. I go back in December. Xx
  • Hi there.

I had my tumour sent off for the oncotype test (I had two operations in July and August and I’d pretty much been told I likely wouldn’t need chemo, but then the results came back and said that it would be recommended. I start this Friday and I’m really scared.

  • Thanks I still have to wait for the oncotype results which is scary but at least it hadn’t spread.

How long after your op did you guys start your radio?

    Xx

  • Hi

How come they changed their minds? I’m still waiting for mine to come back and they said it really depends on their advice as the said they take into consideration the level of cancer, age and other things so they could say this to me aswell. Not going to lie I’m scared if they do say that but then I suppose I need to keep thinking it’s all to keep us alive and healthy for more years to come.

What time have you got to go on Friday? Did they say how long it would be? Xx

  • Hi there

So they basically look at the 58 genomes and the mathmatical statistics of the tumour in comparison to thousands of other women that had the same type of cancer and stats and their recurrance rates. Originally they had diagnosed that the stats of mine (out of 8) were 7&8 for Oestrogen & Progesterone fueling the tumor so had assessed that chemo wouldn't likely be of benefit, but the oncotype test assessed that because it was grade 3 and therefore growing seeminly aggressively and my age being 43 that I would benefit in the extra protection against secondary cancer.

They gave me this bar graph that basically gives me an extra 4% protection so it's not much but although I wish I didn't have to have it I guess I need to take as much protection against secondary as I can... boo to that xxx

  • Mine is also graded 3 but stage 0/1 as it hasn’t spread. I’m 34 so I wonder if they will say the same about mine.

Another couple of weeks wait. I’ve got a break booked at centre Parcs on the 18th Nov to take my 7 month old to se father’s Christmas. I’m really hoping that treatment doesn’t clash with this as we’ve been forward to it for so long.  X

  • oh bless you. I'm sure that if you have to have it, a few weeks wait won't harm. I was expecting to start radio at the begining of Sept and it's taken this long just to get the first chemo appointment organised so I'm sure you would have time to still go, but be hopeful that each case is so different and personal and fingers crossed you don't have to have it.

Mine was also stage 1 and hadn't spread but it was originally misdiagnosed twice so had grown somewhat by the time they finally identified it as cancer. When did you have your operation? xx

  • I had the op on the 3rd sept so three weeks ago. It was smaller than they thought, it was 16mm instead of 21mm x

  • Ah, mine was beginning of August, so just a little bit ahead. I'll keep everything crossed for you that you don't have to have it, but if you do, I'm here if you want to chat through it. I've been reading like a maniac to try and prepare myself but still feel so anxious xx

  • Hi

just had a phone call with my oncotype results. It come back 24/100 so slightly above the lowest rating. She said that they have recommended chemo due to my age.  I’m absolutely freaking out, can you help? X
