Just diagnosed at 34 with Breast Cancer

Hi there,

I was told on Friday that I had Breast Cancer, completely shocked and feel heartbroken, I have a 22 month old daughter and can’t explain the depth of pain I feel.

I didn’t go with anyone to get biopsy results, as previously, I was given feedback that the lump found looked like and felt like fibrodemena it was only the biopsy which confirmed it was cancer.

Waiting for more test results and for an MRI. To confirm all results. Initially I have been told it’s hormone receptive and grade 2 invasive inductal cancer, really hoping that someone can reassure me that I can get through this and share any feedback if you have been in a similar situation. I keep having breakdowns and feel I need to get a grip.

  • Thank you for all your replies.

Yes just want it out now as you just do t know how much it’s spreading whilst it’s in there. Tuesday will be scary but at least that’s something else done. I’ve got a 6 month old so I won’t be able to do much lifting with her. Think hubby is having time off to help and we have a great family too.

How long after your operations was the radio? How long were the radio treatments? X

  • Hi,

Had my operation Tuesday so recovering at the moment. It was a long day as I didn’t get operated on till half 3 and didnt leave the hospital till half 10 at night. The operation took longer than expected as they struggled to find my first lymph node. I feel better in myself than yesterday but not completely 100%. Feeling sore under my arm and my throat is killing from the tube. My waterproof dressings have also started to come off which is worrying as the nurse told me to keep them on for a week.

Feel better that it’s out but then the dread of going for results on the 16th creeps in and I start to worry and I even cried yesterday. I was looking at my husband playing with our daughter and I burst into tears.

Did any any of you feel emotional and fearing the results at this point?

    Xx

  • Hi [@X14urx03]‍

Sending lots of love, hope the healing goes smoothly. If you are concerned about anything, including your dressing, just call the Macmillan nurse at hospital and they can give you advice.

It definitely takes a few weeks to feel normal. I found the second week I felt more bruised internally it was never really bad though, just felt like I had to take it easy. Not easy with toddler! I made sure I had help where possible and avoided carrying her when out of the house. At that the time, she was going through a phase of not wanting to go in the pram and not walking very far either

It’s also very normal to feel weepy and emotional. I did and it was hard at times, especially when the results waiting crept into my mind, but 8 weeks on I feel very good and you will too.

    Sending a big hug xx

  • Hi, glad the op went well, must have been hell waiting to go down, luckily I was first on the list when I had my op so was in theatre for 9. Did you not have the radioactive dye put in the lymph nodes? The site under my arm was more painful than the breast, I think it’s because of where it is and no matter how hard to try to not use it, it’s impossible, have you got a pillow to put under your arm, it does help. If you are worried about your dressing maybe patch it up with ordinary plasters. I know the waiting is a pain, but you are a strong woman and whatever the outcome you will face it as we all do on this forum, we are always here for you. Let me know how you get on on the 16th babe. You will feel emotional atm cos you have just had a major op and your mind is all over the place, don’t bottle anything in and talk to people. Sending lots of love xx

  • Yes they gave me the radioactive injection but apparently struggled to find the first one. They didn’t have to use the blue dye in the end. My armpit area and the back of my arm are still pretty numb, hoping that will gradually go, did you have this?

Going to ring about dressings tomorrow and see what they say.

going to have a wonder out the house tomorrow as I’ve not been out, think it will do me good just need to be careful not to over do it.

    X

  • Hi, Yes I had a lot of pain and numbness, I am 3/4 months post op and part of my upper arm is still numb. Please remember to use a cushion under your arm it really does help. I’m glad you’re going out, the fresh air will help, just watch your arm/boob, enjoy, xx

  • Rang about my dressings and she said I can take it off if it’s coming off.

How long was it till you started your radio after your op? X
