NOT WHAT I HAD HOPED - Lump on my neck

As coincidence would have it after I posted an earlier message on here - the Consultant 'phoned me this morning to tell me I have cancerous lymph nodes.  I feel numb & utterly devastated.  More scans ahead to see where the source is or whether it is contained in my lymph nodes.  Has anyone else a similar story with a positive outcome?  Thank you x

  • Hi there

Am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and can understand your angst.

I was diagnosed last June with tonsil cancer and am still in recovery phase at the momment.
I kept a blog from the get go and its helped so many others from here (and abroad) and you might find it benefitial to hear what potentially lies ahead. Also plenty of good advice and tips and broken into sections with timelines etc.
Its not an easy journey duw to the threatment and location of where it is but on the positive side it is one of the most curable and one with the highest rate of success.
I also started a thread here called "Radiotherpay for Throat Cancer" and its under Living with Cancer.
This has been really quite popular with over a 1000 posts and many contributions from many should you also want to read that and also please feel free to join in.

Please see link below to my personal blog and also please feel free to ask away any questions or let me know if I can help in anyway at all

  • This is so kind of you to take the time to reply - thank you, so much for doing so.  Because I have 'only' been told that I have two lymph nodes which are cancerous - I am wondering if perhaps I had better not read about tonsil cancer  just yet?  Because I don't know if the source is contained only in my lymph nodes or elsewhere in my body and as a result showing up in my lymph nodes - I'm not sure what I should be reading?  What do you think? I appreciate any comment you may wish to make.  Thank you so very much again for taking the time to reply. x

  • Hi there

I understand and please dont read until you are ready. or if would set your mind racing as I had no intent to do that. I guess waiting a little makes sense and you have a goto blog should you wish to read when you have a little more info.
While headed up tonsil cancer its really in the main about treatment of radiotherapy and the journey from that and the recovery.
So as for any reading I would defo advise you to stay off google and stick to NHS based sites and they will contain the most up to date information and guidance. Google is full of mis information and also out of date information.
Main reason I posted link to blog so early was that it did contain the positive aspects as well as the journey and to take from it that although you may face treatment for this, there is light at the end of the tunnel and the success rate is really high.

Lets hope you have your further appointments soon and you can get a clearer diagnosis of extactly where you are, the extent of the diagnosis then onto the proposed treatment plan.

Please keep me posted on how you get on and am only a message away if you have any questions or if you feel I can help in anyway.
Also happy if you wanted to friend request in PM if you ever wanted to chat through in more detail but will leave that up to you.

I wish you al lthe best

    Regards

    Ian x

  • Once again - thank you so so much for taking the time to reply to me.  So kind.  All noted what you have to say.  And I certainly will keep you updated once I know more.  Thank you so much again.

  • Hi Heddybell

I also found swollen lymph nodes in one side of my neck which has turned out to be tonsil cancer

I've had tonsilectomy and teeth removed and all the various tests etc and had my mask made and I begin treatment in a couple of weeks

I was wondering if you can look at your tonsils and see if one looks different to the other. The difference in mine was really noticeable after it was pointed out to me

You do seem really positive which is so good

I am really scared but trying to stay brave for other people's sake although at times I just feel like giving up and am so fed up of pretending to be positive

I've posted on a couple of other posts but never had a reply so didn't bother again until I've just seen your post

Please keep me updated as I seem to only be a little ahead of you

    Thank you

  • Thank you Anchor1797 - I note and appreciate what you say x

  • Dear Little Sunshine - thank you for taking the time to reply.  I really appreciate this.  I am so sorry that you too have found yourself on this site.  I'm not positive at all - far from it.  The thing is I've just been told I have two lymph nodes showing up as cancerous - so I have no idea as yet, what kind of cancer I have.  I had my tonsils removed when I was a child but perhaps there is some tissue left - I don't know.  It's this waiting - not knowing what it is.  I think once I know there will be some sort of relief.  At the moment I imagine cancer is racing through my body and the lymph nodes is the secondary location.  Other times I tell myself it is 'just' located in the lymph nodes.  My mind races to the point of I feel I am going mad at times.  I am pleased your treatment begins in a couple of weeks.  I will certainly keep you updated Little Sunshine and please, will you do the same? x
