Stage 4 lung cancer

My step dad has just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer it's spread to his lymph nodes in his throat and left shoulder..... Also he has fluid in his chest cavity they are testing for cancerous cells.

He has a pet scan on the 8th July to see if its spread any further.

He's having 6 rounds of chemotherapy to prolong his life he's only 60.

I don't know what to do he didn't want to know how long he had left what sort of scale would it be on?

Thankyou x

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Sunshine1986.

I'm sorry to read about your step dad's diagnosis. This must be very difficult for you both at the moment but hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation with their loved ones will be along soon to share their experiences with you.

If you want to get an idea of time it would be best to see if you can get your dad's permission to have a chat with his medical team privately as you'll then be able to find this out and get any other questions answered that may have been playing on your mind since you found out about your step dad's diagnosis.

I'll have my fingers crossed that the pet scan will bring good news on the 8th and wish your step dad all the best with his chemo.

    Kind regards,
