Hysterscopy results

Hi All.

My mum has had a hysterscopy last week and she received a phone call from the doctor saying thsy she has "precancerous cells" . Her USS showed 16mm thickneness lining in the womb. She had a a hysterscopy 3 years ago which showed hyperplasia.  He recommended that she has a MRI. From what I gather MRI is only done when cancer is detected,  to determine staging of cancer, does anyone know why one would  be recommended if "precancerous cells " were detected?

Thank you for reading x

  • Hi Sam

Can I reassure you on one point-MRIs are not only done when cancer is detected. I had one years ago when I had a strange lump appear on my neck. It turned out to be a cyst and nothing to worry about.

MRI scans do not stage cancer-the staging is done by having a CT scan.

Since the USS has shown thickening, the MRI will be done to get more information on what is going on.

Hope that helps put your mind at rest a little.xx
