Grade 2 invasive lobular breast cancer

Hi ppl.

So I was diagnosed last Thursday with grade 2 lobular breast cancer and am now awaiting MRI so am not sure of the stage yet. Been told a lumpectomy/mastectomy depending on MRI result and a couple of lymph nodes, radiotherapy and hormone therapy for 5-10 yrs. My question is has any1 similar to me had chemotherapy too ? As it wasn't mentioned until I asked in which they said we wouldn't no until my MRI results. Was 43 last Saturday! Married and a mum to 3 children, daughter 16 son 14 an youngest son 7. Opp isn't bothering it's all the side effects I'm reading !!

  • Hi,i just got the results today,CT scan and MRI are clean, thanks God, thank you so much

  • Hi,

I am sorry to hear your news but it does all sound positive and  they have caught it early. Your tumour will be given a grade from 1-3, 3 meaning the fastest growing cells. My lobular cancer was grade 2 - medium growing. The stage is linked to tumour size and lymph nodes.  My tumour was around 35 mm so stage 2a. I had a partial mastectomy with reconstruction using tissue from my back. I then had an Oncotype test done, which determined whether I would benefit from chemo. It came back with a score of 16, so no chemo needed. I too had radiotherapy and am now on tamoxifen for 10 yrs. When they do your lumpectomy, they take an area that is slightly bigger than your tumour and test the margin area to see if it is clear of cancer cells. If they find cells - they will remove more tissue in another op. They will also test your sentinel lymph nodes, which will show if it has started to spread. That will also help determine your treatment. My advice would be prepare for the worse but hope for the best. I found that things could change along the way. I think we all worry about it coming back, it's a fear I think we have to learn to live with but treatment nowadays is very advanced and the survival rates for early breast cancer are in the 90%s. I am 17 months from being initially diagnosed. After treatment has been tough as you then start to process it more once everything has finished. After worrying about every ache and pain, I have come to the conclusion that life is too short to worry about it coming back. I need to enjoy my life for today and not worry about things that might not happen or are out of my control. Talk to people, surround yourself with positive family and friends, stay focussed and you will get through this. Don't allow this cancer to get the better of you. Xx

  • My tumour is 8 cm,they will do mastectomy but first decided to have chemo, tomorow i will meet first time my oncologist to explain me about tratament,i'm so scared of chemo

  • Thank you Cazrosie,

that is great advice. I am really positive it has been caught early and my treatment will be the radiotherapy and hormone treatment. It has eased my mind, reading all these posts with all the positivity.

    good luck everyone

  • You can do this!! I've just read Victoria Derbyshire's book - Dear Cancer Love Victoria. It's about her journey with breast cancer. She details her treatment, side effects and how she is feeling / coping. She had breast cancer and had a mastectomy and chemo, plus radiotherapy. I found it very reassuring that many of us go through similar thoughts. We all have different journeys but are all fighting a battle. Stay focussed - you have to look at it as a 'blip' and you will get through it xx

  • How did your meeting with your oncologist go?

  • Hi,yes i saw doctor yesterday,on 22 december i will start my chemo 8 cicles.Today i done bones scan and i worry about the result, once again worse awaiting

  • I agree - the waiting is always the hardest!!! Keep busy. And at least you have a start date now xx

  • I 'm so scared of chemo, they give me 1 cicle to two weeks, instead 21 days, because is to big and go to the lymph nodes.
