Oesophageal cancer

Just after some advice ,my dad has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and  we were told today it was T3.An operation to cut it away they have said he is not well enough for because  of a condition he has called bronchiectasis. They are sending him for a PET scan as the liver showed something suspicious. If the cancer has spread I'm aware that it's not a good outcome. If it hasn't they have said maybe chemotherapy or radiotherapy but because of his lung condition this  can alsohave bad effects. All in all it just feels there is nothing left. any experience or help I would be grateful to hear surly this can't be it for my dad.thanks

  • Just wanted to welcome you to the forum Emrab and say I am sorry to hear about your dad.

Once the results for the PET scan come through, your medical team will know more to determine how to treat the cancer. if you're attending his next appointment. It might be a good idea to write down any questions you may have so you get all the information you need.

Coping with your dad's diagnosis would naturally take it's tole sometimes and there are organisations like Macmillan that can help it you need it.

For further medical advice, we also have a team of nurses available to talk to and you can call them free on 0808 800 4040. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm or you can email any questions

Best wishes to you and your dad,
