Dad has lung cancer

Ive just found out my dad has lung cancer. He's currently in hospital following a fall . He lives alone. 76 year of age. I'm so saddened but staying strong and positive for him. Anybody to talk to who has been through the same would be great. Just want to know how I can help him as much as I can.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Riab although I'm sorry to read about your dad's diagnosis.

I've had a quick look through the forum and thought you may like to have a chat with [@monty1]‍ as his dad was diagnosed with lung cancer a few weeks ago so you may be able to support and help each other as your parents embark on this journey.

Hopefully other members who are in a similar position will pop by as well but if you have any questions about what's to come do give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • So sorry to hear this for you too.

It's hard isn't it. Do you have any support. Is your Dad recieving any treatment??

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your dad...... Yes it's very hard, he's been so brave though he's starting chemotherapy on the 8th of July he's having 6 sessions.... Its not curable though it's just going to prolong his life.

How is your dad is he having treatment? X

  • He is up and down. There's only myself who is really there to help him. He starts radiotherapy on Monday. Ive not even spoken to any consultant s about it.

He had a fall and was alone on the floor for three days , as I was  was abroad. Ended up hospital   for two weeks. His blood pressure kept dropping causing him to fall.

    Trying to keep him positive,

    X
