BRAIN TUMOUR DIAGNOSIS IN SON

Mt son is 33 years old and went to his gp 2 weeks ago, who referred him for a MRI.  The MRI was done on Thursday 6th June 2019 and we were told about 10 days for a result.   But next day 7th June his GP called him in with myself, and he was informed he had a brain tumour, which knocked us all for 6.   Firstly is it normal for such a fast result back from MRI.   The GP informed us on the 7th June that the hospital was putting it before the multi disciplinary team on Tuesday 11th June and we just have to wait to see what is the decision as to the route forward.  My son is so on edge as hes assuming that such a fast response from the MRI and the fact its going to multi disciplinary on Tuesday 11th that this is bad.

    Hi Chaotic,

    Welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. I am a breast cancer lady myself, but lost a young colleague of only 26 to a brain tumour a few years ago. Like your son, he got the results the day after he had his MRI. I may be wrong, but I suspect that the doctors act on this type of cancer as quickly as they can, especially when it affects young people.

All results for all types of cancer are discussed at an MDT meeting, as soon after the results come back as possible. Most consultants hold a weekly MDT meeting, so this is nothing to worry about, as it is normal procedure.

I'm sure that this week has seemed to drag for both you and your son. Still, only one day left. Has he been given an appointment to see the consultant for the results, or is he waiting for the consultant to contact him?

Do please keep in touch and let us know the results. We are always here foryou both.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
