Bowel Cancer found, CT scan to come

My Mother (60) had a colonoscopy a couple of days ago and has been told she has bowel cancer - a tumor 6cm in length. She is now in the horrible wait period before the CT scan which is scheduled for next Wednesday to see whether it has spread beyond the bowel into the lymph nodes and/or onto the lungs/stomach etc.

They estimate that the tumor has been there 2-3 years. Is there anyone here that has had a similar diagnosis? The biggest fear at the moment is that the size of the tumor indicates that it may have spread beyond the bowel - but I have no basis for comparisson (i.e. whether 6cm is big/small/average).

Not quite sure what I am looking for but just felt this was the place to come in such circumstances.

  • Hello Wanderlusty

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about Mum's diagnosis. Understandably this is a difficult time for you all while Mum waits for her CT scan and results.

We have some information on our website about bowel cancer that may be of interest for you.

I've had a look through the forum and we do have a couple of active threads at the moment where you may be able to connect with others who have experince with bowel cancer. You can find these by using the search function in the blue bar at the top of this page.

One that may be of particular interest to you is this thread , where a number of members have relatives who are dealing with bowel cancer. I'm sure if you add a post there they will reply as soon as they are able to.

I hope that Mum doesn't have to wait too long for her results after her scan next week. Pop back and let us know how things are.

    Best wishes,
