Stage 4 Cancer - Mum

Hi I am just looking for some advise and other peoples experiences.

4 weeks ago we found my mum has ovarian cancer they staged her at 1B 2 she was then sent for a PET scan which has shown that she’s is actually at stage 4 cancer.

The cancer has spread up her spine into the neck and chest. My mum said the Dr has advised only a small amount of people survive this.

My mum can’t have the tumour removed as it’s too big and they can’t give her radio therapy she is waiting to go in chemotherapy.

Has anyone experienced this and can give me some advice on what to expect?

Thank you.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Bianca although I'm sorry to read about your mum.

I know you're hoping to hear from others in a similar situation so I've had a quick look through the forum for you and wanted to put you in touch with [@Roxymaisey]‍. They were diagnosed with advanced stage 4 ovarian cancer right at the end of last year so hopefully they'll be along soon to offer their moral support and share their journey with you.

You can also have a chat with our cancer nurses about this on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do give them a call if you feel talking this through with them will help.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hi Bianca

Im so sorry to read about your mum and what you and your family are going through.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer on new years eve. After scans, tests, abdomen and chest drains they found that it has spread to thr bowel lining, stomach, lung and liver.

I was told that my cancer has spread too much now to have the debulking surgery but i will continue to have target therapy for 12 months.

The chemo is tough but does work and it is worth your mum asking if target therapy would benefit her. This is administered alongdide the chemo and targets the cancer cells directly.

If there is anything i can help you or your mum with please dont hesitate to get in touch.

Thoughts and prayers are with you xx
