mum is starting Letrozole.

Hi everyone i'm new here and thank goodness i found this forum for my mum, mum is 80 years old and was diagnosed Apil 12th with advanced breast cancer, we are all remaining positive , we know mum cannot be cured but treated to feel better and to reduce the breast mass and hopefully to carry on feeling relatively normal.

Mum had her 1st oncology appointment yesterday and she is starting 2.5mgs of Letrozole tonight or tomorrow morning? When is the best time to take it? The oncologist did say most people prefer the evening? I know every med has side effects and people do have some harsh effects but i would love to hear some positive reviews on it...if any? Lol i do not think that mum is worried over any weight gain as she is only very slight and would love those extra pounds. thanks in advance

  • I finished 20 radiotherapy sessions yesterday for stage 1 breast cancer.  Had lumpectomy in August to successfully remove tumour and thankfully lymph nodes were clear.    Have had no side effects from anything so far.  Am now due to start taking Letrozole for 5 years.  Hope your Mum is still finding her treatment ok.  I realise I have been very lucky.

    Hi Pandy,

Congratulations on completing 20 radiotherapy sessions yesterday. I am glad to hear that you have had no adverse effects and, that you are now starting to take Letrozole. I hope that your luck holds out and, that you will have no side-effects from Letroole either.
    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello great to hear from you, fantastic news...yippee keep smiling this thing will not beat us eh. Mum has been doing very well on letrozole with minimal side effects, hot flushes like she is on fire but comes and go and abit irritable occassionally but too be expected . She also started ibrance palbociclib in May too, this has had some very positive outcomes-it has shrunk mums cancer tumour quite abit, her cancer markers in september had gone from 700 to 290 good news.

I am sure you will do well on Letrozole and the side effects will hopefully be kind to you too.

I wish you hope and happiness and strength for christmas. Merry christmas.xx
