Primary Liver Cancer - Help

HI

I am new to this forum.  My partner has just been diagnosed with HCC (3cm and only one tumour).  We are trying to be positive at the moment and do everything possible to try and beat this.  He does not get his MRI scan until next friday to see if it has gone anywhere else so fingers crossed it hasn't.

M reason for posting is to see if anyone has advice on diet?  Is there any particular plan or diet that you would recommend?  He suffers from galstones too which is quite restrictive but will try anything at this point!

Thanks in advance

A

  • Hi Amyjanegirl.

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the news that has brought you here.

Until your partner has had all his tests and results it would probably be wise to not make any drastic changes to his diet unless you have been advised otherwise by his team. Sometimes diet can interfere with treatments and medications. I'm sure that once the Dr's have a full picture of things and have discussed treatment options with you that they'll be able to offer advice on diet or refer you to a dietician for support.

If you'd like to have a chat with our team of nurses ahead of his MRI and next appointment then please do give them a call. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

  • Hi

Well where do I start?!  As I said we had the CT scan etc and thank god that has come back as clear that the cancer has not gone anywhere else for now...however...my partner was take into hospital on Monday with a lot of pain which is gallstones!  Following on from this the consultant has now come back and said that due to the location of the tumour on the liver they won't be able to operate as it is too risky due to the gallbladder.  They have said that they will now start tace treatment and put him on the transplant list....we have still not met with the consultant, just a specialist nurse who seems to tell half a story.  Does this mean he can't be cured?  Where does it leave us?

  • Hi Amyjanegirl

That sounds like great news that the scan came back with positive results! I'm sure that was a relief to you both.

Gallstones can be very painful! I hope that the hospital have been able to help your partner with something to manage this.

Do you have an appointment with the consultant booked soon? It sounds positive that they are starting TACE treatment for your partner with a view to hopefully finding a transplant. We have some information about TACE on our website here which may help with some of your questions. If you think it would be helpful to chat all this through with one of our team of nurses then do give them a call. Their number is 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your partner doesn't have to wait too long to start his treatment. Keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on.

  • Hi

We have an appointment booked with the consultant on Wednesday and we are getting a list of qustions to ask.  What we can't get out heads round is why they are so worried about the gallbladder as surly it would be better to take that out at the same time as doing the ablation?  They are saying now though that they can't as it is too risky for the gallbladder but at the moment we don't give a flying toss about the gallbladder and saving that...we just want the tumour out...is that unreasonable to request that they do that.  It would be less risky than leaving it to possibly get bigger while we wait for a transplate and then there are the risks of the actual transplant operation.  We have also since discovered that there is such a thing a live transplant and his family and also myself are also more than happy to go down this route...would that be possible?  We live in Cornwall but originally from Scotland so it is very difficult as all family and friends are in Scotland...we feel so alone.
