Freaking out

I was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal cancer last Thursday. No sign in my nodes on ultrasound but will check during surgery. Had pain in left breast for a long time, tumour found in right with absolutely no symptoms. I happened to mention that I have had rib pain in the left for some time now, GP said it’s ligament pain that would go but it hasn’t. Consultant has said he is sure it’s not related but has said to have a chest X-ray anyway. I am freaking out now that they found something, breast nurse said she had looked out for the report and noticed I hadn’t been yet. I have been so calm but this is making me scared, what if it has already spread?

  • Hi Ploppy,

It's perfectly normal to be scared. I think all our members here will at some point in their cancer journey felt scared and I know many of them will agree that waiting for test results can be particularly hard. It's the "not knowing" that makes it difficult.

Did the breast nurse say how long you might have to wait for your x-ray results? Do you have another appointment booked ahead of your surgery date? If you've not heard back then maybe call and leave a message.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer. Let us know when you get some news.

    Best wishes,
