Just had a biopsy

I went back to the hospital today after a mammogram recall. There was a tiny change in my right breast since my last mammogram in 2008. The area was tiny in 2008 and although still tiny there is a slight change. The doctor doing the biopsy was fantastic and said if it is cancer it will be so tiny that she thinks it will be a lumpectomy. I was pretty upset if I’m honest so they got a breast nurse to talk to me and she put the fear of god in me. She said when the biopsy confirms the cancer I will have a surgery date within 31 days, although she said there will be a lot of pain and upset to treat it, she really scared me, I’m still hoping it will be clear.

Many experience, good or bad?

thank you x

  • Hi there and welcome ...

O M G how unprofessional,  thoughtless, and stupid of that breast nurse ... you should put in an optical complaint to stop her doing that to someone else ... no wonder your upset ...

I had a masectomy in 2017 and you know the op itself went really smoothly and l only needed a few paracetamol the next day ... I couldn't believe how little pain I had from quite a big scar ...

There's lots of us breast lasses on here.... and l recon everyone of them will tell you the op isn't too bad .. one lass [@rileyroo]‍ was home with a cupper in front of the t.v

  • Sorry my pad froze ...  ; ((

And wer doing o.k ... so please don't panic ... but do make sure she doesn't do it again ...

There's lots of us on here that will help you through if you need it ...

    Chrissie

  • Thanks Christie,

so glad to hear your surgery went well, are you doing ok now?

The doctor was lovely and said it is so small that if it is cancer she feels a lumpectomy will be all I need, fingers crossed.

I couldn’t quite believe what the nurse was saying, I was already in shock so I checked with my husband afterwards if I had heard her right, he said he was a bit shocked as well.

Many thanks for your reply, I’ve been googling which hasn’t helped.

I’m hoping that as it’s only changed very slightly in 11 years that that is a positive sign.

  • Hi Plopoy, the problem nowadays is the nurses give you the worst case scenario, it's not to scare you but covers them by stating all the risks.  I've had a lumoectomy, not painful. Done under anaesetic and healed well.  Panic is our normal mode, we all do it, best advice just keep busy and take it a day at a time.  I hope all goes well for you, Chris's is right, we all help each other and have all chatted many times over the years to boost each other.  Love Carol

  • Hi Carol,

thanks for your reply, I must admit that I’m calmer now than when I received the call back letter, can I ask did you have radiotherapy after your lumpectomy?

  • hi

I will tell you that u have nothing to worry about. Last year in May I went to see my professor as I was getting by boobs put back to we’re they should be lol. I had all the ducks taken out nipped in both Breast’s . This had been over 10yrs I had operated on then it started on the other Breast. So as a result I had no feeling at all in my Breasts 1 look like it had a huge thumb print in it . This was due to my operations. So when may 2018 came I was so excited to be getting ready to look like me again. When I got to Breast clinic I was seen by a professor who has been my best friend since day 1. He had a feel and said going to send you for a mammogram then come back up . He said he couldn’t proceed as there was a lump the same size as yours. He had to take a biopsy and I was told to go bk the next week . Yep bang You Have Breast Cancer . I was devastated. I was going on holiday 10 days after. The professor said come here on Tuesday we will do operation and you can go on your holiday and it will be fine. True to his word all went ahead . I had my holiday to turkey didn’t enjoy it at all. I had 48 stitches right over the front of my Breast now no nipple. Also 17 stitches under arm from my lymphnoids. I then had 5wks of radiotherapy every day for 5wks. Guess what I’m fine I was up and down through it all . Plus my auntie passed away in September of lung cancer but I’m here. I have my appointment in July 2019 this time for my boobs to look like mine. I hoped this helps u it’s tough but u will do it cxxcx

  • Thank you for your reply, I’m so pleased that all is good for you now. I don’t have a lump, even the doctor couldn’t feel anything today, I think that’s why it was such a shock.

Hope all goes well for you in July, thanks again for your positive words.

  • Hi, no further treatment was required, so hopefully all will be well for you.  Keep us posted. X

  • I too got a call back for a biopsy last Tuesday.

I was also a little shocked as although I've always had a painful boob and my last mamogramm was clear 2 and a half yrs ago I apparently have calcifications (no lump) behind my nipple. Which they can't tell what they are.

Had a complete breakdown before the biopsy and was told by the two radiologists if I didn't want it I didn't have to they would just monitor me instead... (a little bizarre as they decided approx 10 secs after my mammogram that I'd need a biopsy of them)

Decided to go ahead... Bloody hurt!

So now it's a waiting game til Thursday. Swinging between positivity (BC has not even been mentioned to me) and utter despair.

  • Glitter-Diva,

im sorry you are going through this as well, the doctor said to me it’s 50/50 whether or nots it’s cancer. She said it’s small so easily treatable, I’m hoping that with her experience she can say that confidently.

let us know how you get on won’t you, hopefully we will both get good news. x
