Kidney cancer

My 77 year old dad has just been diagonsed with mRCC and they are asking him if he wants to go onto Sutent.  He is otherwise healthy & active and his opinion is that he's had a good life.  We are wanting to know peoples experience of the side effects being on Sutent if it's worth a little extra time but feeling unwell during it?  He seems content not to bother but we feel as if we are the selfish ones wanting him to be around for longer even if it means he's feeling bad throughout it.

  • I don't think there are many people here with kidney cancer.

I was diagnosed with it and my procedure has only been surgery.

I have been reading a lot though and although I'm not a doctor I can tell you that some people react very well to the medication. I have spoken with some people that haven't had any side effects at all or very mild.

Talk to the doctor they can always try and see if it works.

    Lots of hugs

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I had got my head around that be best for my dad was not to try medication as I didn't want him to be feeling terrible with the treatment and prolonging the inevitable but looks like he's going to go ahead. Nothing to lose i suppose as if he reacts badly then he can stop so at least he has given it a try.

    Hoping you all the best
