Breast cancer diagnosis at 36

Hi Everyone,

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago as I was worried about a lump I had. I had 2 biopsies taken but consultant was almost certain nothing to worry about, I was feeling positive.

On Thursday I got my results and was told it’s a stage 1 breast cancer, 8mm and HER2 negative. Now waiting for MRI to check hasn’t spread and hopefully it will just be removed via lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. Does anyone know how long the treatment will last? I suppose it depends on the severity of the cancer but quite a lot I forgot to ask as I was just in shock.

Also, did anyone else who has been diagnosed have any other symptoms? I’ve had a recurrent mouth ulcer which appeared at the same time as the lump around 6 months ago, I wonder if this was just my body’s way of saying something isn’t right?

Thanks

Nikki

  • Hello again, Just thinking... I'm having radiotherapy on mastectomy area AND lymph nodes under armpit. They told me they took 4 nodes but only sentinel positive. They said cancer was confined within the lymph node but was in the blood vessels. I'm sure you are much better informed than I am but I do like as much information as possible. I found myself overwhelmed with the information provided and didn't fully understand the options. So how can you make decisions? I bought The Complete Guide to Breast  Cancer. I'm not recommending it but it was great for me. I like facts. It was written  by a doctor and a consultant breast surgeon both of whom have breast cancer. If takes you through the journey step by step. Another thing, a specialist nurse said last week that cancer treatment is changing so fast. They are looking to diagnose more through blood tests and do targeted treatments. Chemo for most is a scattergun approach blitzing healthy and cancer cells. So don't worry about not having chemo if you dont need it now. It will be so much better in the future. Also, your Onco score is 10 years out of date because that's how long the trials last.  Your treatment is SO much better than they has so your results are the very minimum  and you  should expect a much better outcome. I am no expert. I have no medical knowledge whatsoever. I just read a lot about cancer since February! Xxx

  • How are you feeling? And how's tamoxifen,  I took it for 3 days about 5 weeks ago felt horrendous,  so I'm building up to start again, just need to get body scan results first, I need to cope with one thing at a time. Positive happy face for children next 2 days. Feel churny sick inside. My daughter kisses my flat side over my clothes bless her.  Xxxx

  • How are doing? I'm waiting for bone staging scan results been over a week now. Finished radiotherapy sore and exhausted.  Need results to positively help move forward. Xx

  • Hi Ruthieroo,

I am ok thank you, been quite up and down the last few days. I’ve had my MRI and it has shown 2 other lumps, one bigger than the original I found and one in the other side. I need to have biopsies in them next Wednesday before a decision is made for surgery. At this point I don’t even want more biopsies, I just want a double mastectomy. They said to wait as that may be drastic but I also know how I worry about things and will probably always be thinking it will return.

So I will have another wait for biopsy results and then hopefully straight in for the op, whichever that may be.

How are you doing? I hope you are managing to enjoy the long weekend with your kiddies?

    Xx

  • Hi,

The Tamoxifen makes me tired & very emotional, last week during my period I felt rock bottom.  However this sunshine is doing me the world of good, I love summer.

Got my Radiotherapy starting on 21/5 for 15 sessions- no boost required for x 1 positive node.  I spoke to my breast care Nurse who advised they discussed my case at the MDT again and consultant radiologist who advised me an MRI was not required.  Basically they won’t give me one just for my peace of mind, I may go private- still thinking about it.

My kids age 10 & 12 have been great, they don’t ask any questions, but I think that’s because I keep them informed  of what’s going on.  They have been great recently when I have one of my emotional outbursts.  I’ve actually asked for some counselling, to help deal with everything that’s happened as my dad died of lung cancer the week after I found my lump, then my mum got diagnosed with breast cancer the week after me.  So 2019 can do one- as far as I’m concerned.

Hows things at your end now ? X

  • Oh my goodness im sorry to hear about your parents. I finally had bone scan results after 2 weeks with full histology report it states no bone metastasis  detected at present. I'm obviously relieved but anticlimactic lots of family and friends said great so that's it then, treated, but I still feel I've got cancer and just waiting for it to show itself! . feels *** had first counceling session pretty emotional as went over everything, and had prosthetic fitted and cryed all through that. My daughter saw my chest for first time from 12 ft away (her request) then said never again, it made her too sad for me. And ive just taken first of tamoxifin been told to keep diary for symptoms.  Good luck with treatment. My chest sore and I'm very tired usually I'm very active I had 15 sessions too. Good luck. Xx
