Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer on the 28th February 2019, I have got DCIS, I went into hospital on Monday 1st April 2019 for a mastectomy & reconstruction surgery & came out on Friday (4 days) which is amazing, I had the reconstruction done from my tummy which also included a new belly button which I wasn’t expecting,so my front looks like it’s been hit by a truck, so it’s early days at the moment, but just wondering if anybody else has had the same done & if so how long did it take for recovery please, I know everybody is different, but just a rough idea would be nice please, thank you .

  • Hi there ...

And welcome to our little chat room ..

I'm also a breast cancer lass ... but not quite the same ... I had a total right breast masectomy. . So I can only tell you my story ... I had a few problems early on and needed draining twice of fluid under scar ... and at the time it looked pretty bad ... but over the months, it all settled down, and now just a white line ..

I've also had a hysterectomy and cesarean op too ... so I'm a tad like a patchwork quilt ... but at least wer here to tell the tail .. so just give it time ... and hopefully it will fade over the comming months ... there's lots of us breast lasses on here ... so any questions and someone will be able to help ...

    Chrissie xx

  • Hi Christie, thank you for that, I know what you mean I’ve had a cesarean & a hysterectomy as well so yes patchwork quilt does come to mind, I only had two drains in which I was suprised at because before hand they told me there would be at least three, but they managed to take one out before I was discharged so I’ve only got the one left which is good, but yes as you say we are the lucky ones, thanks again best wishes. xx
