Recently diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi everyone , I’m 44 recently diagnosed with Breast cancer DCIS and also hormone positive . Its in my lymph nodes aswell . Had CT , Bone Scan and MRI . I’m back on Tuesday to find out results . I’m freaked out having pain in the middle of my back and kept thinking it’s spread . Everyone says it’s stress . I’m fairly healthy never smoked . Just wondering has anyone any advice please . Xx

  • I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, I am 27 found a lump last week and have been referred to breast clinic on Thursday. I am petrified and I still have a chance of being lucky. I have found myself analysing every inch of my body to the point that I’m convinced I’ve just found a dodgy mole above my hip in the same side as the breast with lump, so now my head is being all stupid.

I hope you’re appointment went well today and it was some positive news. Thoughts with you xxx

    Hi Kmj,

    Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about your lump, but glad to hear that you have been referred to the breast clinic and, that you are due there on Thursday.

Don’t forget to let your GP look at your mole, as this will need to be referred to a dermatologist if anything suspicious is noticed. It can take longer to get an appointment with a dermatologist, so the sooner you see your GP, the sooner you’ll be seen by one.

I do hope that all goes well on Thursday, but please don’t expect to get a definite diagnosis straight away. You will possibly have tests done to see if your lump is malignant or benign. The results of these tests then take 1-2 weeks to come back to the clinic, so you are likely to have an anxious wait for that time.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • hi everyone

I am officially half way through, yippee.  I did get good news, the oncologist measured my lump and it’s almost half the size it was and it was a big lump to start with.  I am feeling good, tiredness and chemo brain being the main side effects this time but I can cope with that, I am also getting g out and about a bit more in these last two cycles. My drug mix changes for the next three so could get different side effects but will wait and see what happens.

i too have changed my diet, mainly plant based, smoothies and carrot juice.  I boughtha couple of recipe books, The Doctors Kitchen he is also on insta and has a webpage, he is all about eating to beat I’ll ess and Bosh who are also insta bloggers and vegan.  Both books have great recipes if you are looking for inspiration.  I also need to start doing exercise as I’m putting weight on.

[@Kmj1217]‍ I’m sorry to hear the reason why you are here and fingers crossed for today.  We have been what you a going through so please know we are here whatever the outcome.  Keep in touch.

    Hi Wollylamb,

It is so good to hear some good news for a change. You must be absolutely delighted with the reduction in size of your lump – almost half the size is a considerable change.

I hope that all goes well for you with the change in chemo for the next three – no nasty side-effects. It helps how you feel when you can manage to get out and about a bit more, so I’m glad to hear that this is happening.

I piled weight on throughout my treatment with Tamoxifen and Letrozole. I have now lost 5 stones, though a mixture of sensible eating and exercise. I still have more to lose, but seem to have plateaued in the past couple of months – I’ll just need to be stricter with myself again.

Do you feel any difference since changing your diet?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • hi Jolamine

i do feel a difference, obviously not in weight but I feel lighter, which probably doesn’t make any sense. I don’t feel like I’ve got heavy carbs and meat in my stomach, my skin is great, nails are healthy etc so it must be doing something.  In fact I’d rather have a meat free meal to be honest. I’m not strict with it but I definitely think about what I’m putting in my body now.

[@mejules]‍ how are you feeling?  Have you managed to sort out the nausea?

[@Kmj1217]‍ I’m just checking in to see how you are?

  • Hi all [@Woollylamb][@Jolamine][@BigJean]‍

sorry not been on. It’s good to hear you are all doing ok x woollylamb I’m trying to take more care/notice what I’m putting in my body too. More like though not drinking cows milk as much and eating pomegranate blueberries etc . Might invest in a juicer to make smoothies too x I’ve managed on the good days to get out and do a slow backward plod not far not fast but it makes me feel good although in this heat I haven’t done anything as I just feel sick. Saw oncologist Tuesday and he said nausea is part of the course and when my chemo changes in cycle five the sicky feeling should be less x to be fair if I’m looking at it as a positive 10/11 days of feeling sick is good as i got nearly two weeks that were good x however day before my next cycle I’m feeling rather low as I know what’s coming tomorrow x had my hair shaved on Tuesday and I’m rocking this eleven from stranger things look haha x said to the kids GI Jane but they didn’t know who she was ‍♀️ So we are going with eleven haha x good time to get it done too in this heat x hope you are all doing good. Sounds daft to say I’ve missed you when I’ve never met you but honestly I have missed you all and your updates x take care everyone xx

  • Hi Everyone,

[@mejules]‍ I know exactly how you are feeling the AC is the hardest one . I’ve also started doing smoothies every week especially before treatment and bloods have been great every week . I too get down the day before treatment as we know what’s ahead of us , but I look at it as it’s making us better .

Delighted you got on well with the head shave and kids doing well seeing it gone . Think that was my worst worry !!

I too miss everyone’s updates suppose it’s the summer hols .

Great to hear from you and stay strong sending positive thoughts and prayers.

[@Jolamine]‍ hope you are keeping well ??

[@Woollylamb]‍ hope you are keeping well too and doing well on your treatment?

    take care everyone

  • Hi Woolylamb, mejules and Big Jean,

Sorry I've not been on the forum as much as possible. I am away from home at the .moment and am relying on my mobile. This is my third attempt to write to you all, but it keeps disappearing. My son broke his neck 8 weeks ago and had surgery on Friday to stabilize it.

I am glad to hear that you are all still fighting this hard. I can empathise with you all dreading going for each session of chemo. I have problems with cirrhosis of my liver and feel constantly nauseous - not a pleasant feeling! Still, as Jean says, " it's making you better".

Jules, I'm glad to hear that the timely haircut went well - a great time to get this done with the hot weather. I hope that all continues to go well for you all. I may not be in touch so much,  but I am still thinking of you all.

    .Kind Regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • hi everyone

I’ve been away for the week near Whitby, we booked a last minute holiday cottage as I was feeling ok. It was great to be away as a family and we had the best time and the best weather. No WiFi and limited phone signal so I’ve had a good break from everything.

glad to hear the head shave went well and you are styling it out.

I too feel low the day before my treatment as I know I’m going to be tired and a bit useless for a while, I’m a bit more apprehensive this time as my cocktail changes on Tuesday so I’ve no idea how I will react. I also hate the smell on my skin for about a week afterwards.

But it’s zapping the nasties so we just have to focus on the good rather than the bad as it’s only temporary.

Jolamine, I’m sorry to hear about your son it must be a worry for you, I hope the operation was successful.

    big hugs for everyone
