Recently diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi everyone , I’m 44 recently diagnosed with Breast cancer DCIS and also hormone positive . Its in my lymph nodes aswell . Had CT , Bone Scan and MRI . I’m back on Tuesday to find out results . I’m freaked out having pain in the middle of my back and kept thinking it’s spread . Everyone says it’s stress . I’m fairly healthy never smoked . Just wondering has anyone any advice please . Xx

  • Hi Jolamine

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum’s experience. That must have been so difficult for her, as well as you. It’s really no wonder why the diagnosis of cancer is still so terrifying for anyone to have when there are those experiences before the advancements that have now been made, isn’t it. I guess really we are still in the pioneering days of being able to feel confident that things will be ok.

I saw the breast care nurse yesterday who was able to calm my racing mind a little, so each day is getting a bit easier again.

    I hope you’re doing ok

    Best wishes

    Helen xx

  • Hi Woollylamb

I’m sorry to hear you experience the same anxiety, although I’m learning that this is the same for virtually everyone, so hopefully with us all being in the same boat in that respect, we can gain collective comfort. There are enough people around us all to reassure us that it’s our imaginations following a trauma, rather than what is actually being said to us. It’s important to remind ourselves that the care team know what they’re doing & that they see so many people on this journey, & that most now go onwards to have great & fulfilling lives with clearer focus on the important things in life.

I’m praying to the wound goddess for you that your wound heals soon from your drain & to the results goddess for reassuring results for you.

    Best wishes

  • Hey WL ,

omg you seem to be having a really hard time lately . Sorry to hear you are still not 100% . Hopefully things will improve for you over the next couple of days . It must feel like you are taking one step forward then 2 back ! The antibiotics should do their job and you will get back to “normal “ .

I got the drain out yesterday, much more freedom now and delighted it’s out . Still not sleeping great as I’m still afraid to lie on that side !!! Trying to do the exercises but at still quite sore .

Im back on Wednesday for results too , Vety best of luck with yours .

Sending you hugs and lots of love and positive thoughts.

    Take care

    Hi Helen,

It's hard to believe that there was only 10 years between the treatments that my mum and I had, yet they were so totally different.

I'm glad that your visit to see the breast care nurse yesterday went well and, that she was able to calm you a little.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi BigJean,

I’m delighted to hear that you have now had your drain taken out and, that you are feeling a lot freer now. The soreness should soon settle down. There is nothing to worry about by lying on the affected side. I didn’t have any choice with a double mastectomy and, slept on my side from the day of my operation.

I am glad that you don’t have long to wait for your results.

I shall be hoping and praying that you get good news on Wednesday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you so much for your kind words. You are right I’m sleeping on my right side now ! Not getting very much sleep, I think it’s worrying over what they will say to me on Wednesday.

im just praying that it’s good news. I’ll let you know how I get on .

@ Woollylamb hope all went well with you . Let us know how you get on too .

    Hope everyone doing ok

    take care

  • Hey

my results are a week today. I may have to go back in for another op as some of my wound hasn't healed properly, will find out on Thursday. . So I'm a bit gutted about that , but I've got to think about the long term. Other than that I am good, sleeping much better, up and about more.

I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday. X

    Hi BigJean,

I'm glad to hear that you are now able to sleep on your right, although sorry to hear that you are still not getting much sleep. To be honest, I didn't either until I got the pathology results.

I'm hoping and praying that it will be good news for you on Wednesday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Woollylamb,

I hope that you don't have to go in for another operation. I can fully understand why you feel so gutted about this. You've not been all that lucky with your operations, have you?

Here's hoping that things will look better by Thursday and that you won't have to have another procedure.

I'll be thinking of you on Thursday and keeping my fingers crossed.
