Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hi after a bit of advice please as I'm going out of my mind ..

5 weeks ago I had a internal pelvic scan the pain in my left side & back was horrendous after, I heard nothing for 3 weeks then last Monday had a call to say my scan was abnormal unusual thickness of the womb, my. Left ovary couldn't be seen & cystotic space, my gp referred me to women's hospital. 3 days later I heard off consultant secretary advising me after seeing the scan results my consultant (I have endo) originally was going to do an mri but that now he wants to do a  hysteroscopy & take biopsy within 2 weeks I have that app on Friday .. all of my pain is on the left side pain in my shoulder blade, severe flank pain I'm so scared has anyone had this & it not been cancer my periods are very heavy but then suddenly stop, I struggle with going to the toilet it's all so scary

  • Hello lovely,

All my pain was stabbing on the right side and sometimes pain on the left. I had a thickening and I have swollen ovaries. My biopsy revealed hyperplasia - But not atypical. I have a fibroid and pcos and a bulky uterus.

My gyne wants to go look around with a camera as I have pain and it could be endo.

Like you my bleeding was heavy and on and off. It has now stopped with the mini pill but still get spottong after bowel movememt which is odd.

I truly hope you get good news soon lovely.

  • Hi everyone

I have recently had a transvaginal scan after having small bleed . Now in menopause 20 months since last period.
got a call from gp receptionist within 5 hours of having scan to make appt to discuss scan with how following day . Gp said scan was abnormal with several fibroids and thickend lining blood a blood vessel providing blood somewhere so have appt on Thursday an gynaecology. But annoyed at myself as have been having pain in my left groin for several months and legs but just put it down to an op I had on my pelvis to use the bone for graft to a broken foot 10 years ago . I just thought maybe a bit of arthritis. But Sunday morning I found a swelling on the left side groin where I have been having pain so now terrified. Also I have been under the hospital for breast cyst in October then again in June when they said my lymph glands were swollen but probably due to having covid jab the previous week even though I told them I had been having pain under my arm Breast bone and shoulder which has got much much no further action was taken . So very worried if I do have womb cancer as the doctor mentioned as the worst case scenario it has advanced and spread

I just can't sleep with worry xx

  • Hello

i can completely understand how anxious you must be feeling. It is natural to feel scared and imagine the worse. I'm not sure anything will really help you feel less worried until you fully know what you are dealing with. Are you seeing a gynaecologist or a gynae oncologist? Remember these are specialist doctors who are experts in their field and will want to get to the bottom of what is going on. They have regulated guidelines of processes to follow so you should be in good hands. Why not write down all the things you want to mention , make them aware of and any questions you might have. It is good you are on the process of dealing with whatever it is and in the hands of the right people. I try and take one stage at a time otherwise the panic just sets in and I feel out of control with no where to turn. I hope you get some questions answered on Thursday, let me know how you get on if you would like to. Xx

  • Hi Sundial,

Read your post n would like to know more about your experience.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 2 endometrial cancer. The doc did not remove lymph nodes when performing hysterectomy. I am advised to have external n internal radiotherapy but I worry the cancer might have gone to the lymph nodes.

Was it only because you were in clinical trial so you got the option of reoperation to take out lymph nodes?

    Many thanks!

  • Hi Chui

its some time since I posted on here and I have now been discharged from hospital, still clear.

In answer to your question, I was not actually part of a clinical trial. I was offered the chance to,take part but it was not for me. I didn't feel that I wanted choice to be taken out of my hands and treatment randomly chosen by a computer.

However the trial did highlight a choice that the hospital had not initially offered( further surgery and lymph node testing). I was told that if I didn't take part in the trial, treatment would consist of 25 sessions of external radiotherapy. This was because the cancer was grade 3 and very aggressive. However the spread was stage 1b. The radiotherapy was to zap any stray cancer cells.

As I am diabetic with problems with skin healing I was reluctant to have that many sessions of radiotherapy which might have an adverse effect on my diabetes. I therefore discussed the possibility of having a second op to take lymph nodes for testing. I was told that if there was no cancer found I would have just three sessions of internal radiotherapy which apparently targets a smaller area. If cancer was found treatment could well be both external radiotherapy and chemotherapy. If I had gone with the trial the choice was lymph nodes tested or radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Fortunately my lymph nodes were clear and I had just the three sessions of internal radiotherapy. However if they had found cancer cells I would have possibly needed external. radiotherapy and chemo.I chose the surgery because I wanted the most appropriate treatment and I was lucky that my excellent surgeon agreed with me.

All you can do is ask your consultant if lymph node testing is an option for you and also if it is appropriate. Good luck with whatever treatment you need and please let me know how you get on.

  • Thank you very much Sundail. Glad that you are well and clear. Your experience really opens up my considerations for treatment. I will ask my doctor tomorrow to see what will be the best for me.

    Many many thanks!

    Happy Christmas!

  • Hi there I hope you don't mind me reaching out almost 2 years after you posted.  I too had an ablation and can't have a biopsy. I have to have an MRI. Is this a scan you had ?  How are you doing?
