Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hello!

thank you for responding- we are in the same boat. I am annoyed with myself for not going to GP earlier - I now look at symptoms and so many things should have told me to go to GP and I simply went cause I could not shift a water infection. May I ask what prompted you to go to GP? I had to wait ten days for my scan - but I drove home from that scan and as I walked through front door my GP phoned me to say I was on cancer pathway via NHS - go back on 17th but I cannot fully remember what she told me. I will call tomorrow and see if she will repeat what she told me on Friday.

I am 54 - post menopausal, can remember the GP telling me lining of womb was in excess of 10mm. I did have to call hospital and progress my appt for scan and they had the wrong address for me - apparently hospital has different database to GP!! Letter went to where I lived four years ago! So glad I phoned to find out what was happening. Take care to you too and maybe it’s worth phoning hospital to check your referral is there?

  • hi laney

    Appreciate your reply

I thought my `pains` were part of my ME / CFS, so did not really think they would be anything else, cos got sick of being told ` its the CFS / ME / FM`.  We also had a lot of upset with my dad recently being very ill very quickly and subsequently being diagnosed with leukemia - thankfully all is going well for him at the moment, with monthly check ups etc.  I had pelvic pain, which i put down to pelvic arthritis issues, hip arthirtis etc, but then started with agonising pain in my rectum at the same time as the frontal area.  When pains were bad i had frontal discharge which was pinky, and not pleasant.  I went to GP and had an ultrasound which showed a polylp and thickening of the endometria / womb lining .  Went for hysteroscopy, the polyp was too large to take out in an outpatients setting, so did biopsies.  A week later got a call on a friday aft to see consultant on monday.  Told womb cancer, biopsies `very abnormal` - treatment  needed within a 4 week period.  Went for MRI to see if spread to other pelvic areas , etc, thankfully has not.  Got my pre-op date and pencilled in surgery date - all just one day over the 4 wek period.   Hoping the hysterectomy can be done by key-hole, quicker recovery etc .  Thanks for your response, take care, x

  • Hello lovely,

All my pain was stabbing on the right side and sometimes pain on the left. I had a thickening and I have swollen ovaries. My biopsy revealed hyperplasia - But not atypical. I have a fibroid and pcos and a bulky uterus.

My gyne wants to go look around with a camera as I have pain and it could be endo.

Like you my bleeding was heavy and on and off. It has now stopped with the mini pill but still get spottong after bowel movememt which is odd.

I truly hope you get good news soon lovely.

  • Hi everyone

I have recently had a transvaginal scan after having small bleed . Now in menopause 20 months since last period.
got a call from gp receptionist within 5 hours of having scan to make appt to discuss scan with how following day . Gp said scan was abnormal with several fibroids and thickend lining blood a blood vessel providing blood somewhere so have appt on Thursday an gynaecology. But annoyed at myself as have been having pain in my left groin for several months and legs but just put it down to an op I had on my pelvis to use the bone for graft to a broken foot 10 years ago . I just thought maybe a bit of arthritis. But Sunday morning I found a swelling on the left side groin where I have been having pain so now terrified. Also I have been under the hospital for breast cyst in October then again in June when they said my lymph glands were swollen but probably due to having covid jab the previous week even though I told them I had been having pain under my arm Breast bone and shoulder which has got much much no further action was taken . So very worried if I do have womb cancer as the doctor mentioned as the worst case scenario it has advanced and spread

I just can't sleep with worry xx

  • Hello

i can completely understand how anxious you must be feeling. It is natural to feel scared and imagine the worse. I'm not sure anything will really help you feel less worried until you fully know what you are dealing with. Are you seeing a gynaecologist or a gynae oncologist? Remember these are specialist doctors who are experts in their field and will want to get to the bottom of what is going on. They have regulated guidelines of processes to follow so you should be in good hands. Why not write down all the things you want to mention , make them aware of and any questions you might have. It is good you are on the process of dealing with whatever it is and in the hands of the right people. I try and take one stage at a time otherwise the panic just sets in and I feel out of control with no where to turn. I hope you get some questions answered on Thursday, let me know how you get on if you would like to. Xx

  • Hi Sundial,

Read your post n would like to know more about your experience.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 2 endometrial cancer. The doc did not remove lymph nodes when performing hysterectomy. I am advised to have external n internal radiotherapy but I worry the cancer might have gone to the lymph nodes.

Was it only because you were in clinical trial so you got the option of reoperation to take out lymph nodes?

    Many thanks!

    Chui

  • Hi Chui

its some time since I posted on here and I have now been discharged from hospital, still clear.

In answer to your question, I was not actually part of a clinical trial. I was offered the chance to,take part but it was not for me. I didn't feel that I wanted choice to be taken out of my hands and treatment randomly chosen by a computer.

However the trial did highlight a choice that the hospital had not initially offered( further surgery and lymph node testing). I was told that if I didn't take part in the trial, treatment would consist of 25 sessions of external radiotherapy. This was because the cancer was grade 3 and very aggressive. However the spread was stage 1b. The radiotherapy was to zap any stray cancer cells.

As I am diabetic with problems with skin healing I was reluctant to have that many sessions of radiotherapy which might have an adverse effect on my diabetes. I therefore discussed the possibility of having a second op to take lymph nodes for testing. I was told that if there was no cancer found I would have just three sessions of internal radiotherapy which apparently targets a smaller area. If cancer was found treatment could well be both external radiotherapy and chemotherapy. If I had gone with the trial the choice was lymph nodes tested or radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Fortunately my lymph nodes were clear and I had just the three sessions of internal radiotherapy. However if they had found cancer cells I would have possibly needed external. radiotherapy and chemo.I chose the surgery because I wanted the most appropriate treatment and I was lucky that my excellent surgeon agreed with me.

All you can do is ask your consultant if lymph node testing is an option for you and also if it is appropriate. Good luck with whatever treatment you need and please let me know how you get on.

  • Thank you very much Sundail. Glad that you are well and clear. Your experience really opens up my considerations for treatment. I will ask my doctor tomorrow to see what will be the best for me.

    Many many thanks!

    Happy Christmas!

  • Hi Chui

    I'm glad I could help.

  • Hi I'm new to the forum and begging for some support as I'm terrified

I went for vaginal scan yesterday and they found thickening of my womb 9.8 I've been on HRT with spotting on and over the last year. They also say my endometrium is irregular. I paid privately as couldn't wait for 2 week pathway as bleeding heavily. I have no pain or cramps. I'm about to discuss results with gp but terrified is not the word ! I haven't slept or ate for days anyone else going through this ?

  • I'm the same as you I'm 69 yrs old and we t with a  small hernia in groin dr examined me and started the ball rolling I've had ultrasound  womb 11mm thick dr put on my notes suspected gynaecological  cancer so now out of my mind I'm going for hysteroscopy  tomorrow  and praying I find out more Pleade let me know how you get on

  • MC1 its just the worst thing ever waiting ! To be honest I spoke with a soniographer today at the hospital who said the thickness is not anything to worry about she'd be more worried about 25/30 ! I'm on HRT and said 9.8 is ok. Gave me some hope ! Thickening can also be lots of other things like polyps cysts which is really common. Did they say you had any masses or lesions ? If not that's a great sign. Hernia is not related to womb cancer

  • Hi no no masses few fibroids in 69 so not on htt mine 11mm  how old are you if you don't mind me asking . because of my age I have been told it's a higher risk of cancer  which worried me  it's saying thickened endrometrium with few cystic spaces. I've also got a fibroid in the myetrium it says on the report

If you are on hrt the lining can be thicker from what I've been told how have you gone on Have you had your hystroscopy and results yet

  • Hi no tests done yet going for nhs scan on Monday. I had a private scan showed 9.7 which according to them was abnormal in shape and thickness no masses detected ! Bonus !
Went to gp armed with this abnormal scan he didn't give me any hope only diazepam to calm my nerves. Called hospital for a cancellation this morning and that's when I spoke to a wonderful lady soniographer in floods of tears. Me declaring my readings and gripped in fear. She said to me well that sounds pretty normal to me on HRT but sounds like hormones everywhere from HRT. Then went on to say if you were saying 25/30 I would be concerned but not to worry ! Anyway my scan is Monday morning now. I'm still totally petrified and googling like mad ! How are you feeling ? Positive about no masses and I know polyps cause thickening which I don't have. Xxx

  • Hi I'm the same as you my nerves are all over the place I'm 69 well 70 last week so a good 12 yrs older than you and not on hot so can blame that on the thickening I asked about the vagifem estrogen  pessaries  I was given told to insert one every day by the gynea dept that was 12 month ago now dr says one twice a month I was told they won't cause it .I'm due my hysteroscopy  in few hrs and dread it as I know a lot fail as I've been told it's painful just hoping I can get it done ok I will send you a friend  request so I can pm you if that's OK xx

  • Please do send me a request but honestly your thickening mm is not indicative of cancer at this stage if it is it will be low grade and hysterectomy will be done. Try keep positve no masses or lesions detected and your age cancer grow slowly. Estrogen does cause thickening of the womb let me know how you get on

  • the dr said there's lesions on.my womb that can make it appear  thicker but from the endoscopy  I've had this morning she dosent think thers anything  to worry about so has reassured me she has done 2 biopsies and will.know for definite when they come back the lesions ont look suspicious  I feel.a lot better than I did The hysteroscopy was a bit painful and I had to have a local anesthetic but I managed to get through it ok

  • MC1 that's great news I'm so happy for you what a relief did she say the thickness wasn't really an issue ? I'm in complete breakdown mode now ! I have mine on Monday how painful was it ? I'm a bit worried now as no lesions detected and mines 9.7 ! Worse thing for me is I'm still bleeding coming off HRT and panicking like mad. I keep reassuring myself that 9.7 can be in normal range for women on HRT but the bleeding on top is the worry. Please let me know how to prepare for Monday as I know I'll be a wreck

  • chezza I've just sent you a message
