Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hello!

thank you for responding- we are in the same boat. I am annoyed with myself for not going to GP earlier - I now look at symptoms and so many things should have told me to go to GP and I simply went cause I could not shift a water infection. May I ask what prompted you to go to GP? I had to wait ten days for my scan - but I drove home from that scan and as I walked through front door my GP phoned me to say I was on cancer pathway via NHS - go back on 17th but I cannot fully remember what she told me. I will call tomorrow and see if she will repeat what she told me on Friday.

I am 54 - post menopausal, can remember the GP telling me lining of womb was in excess of 10mm. I did have to call hospital and progress my appt for scan and they had the wrong address for me - apparently hospital has different database to GP!! Letter went to where I lived four years ago! So glad I phoned to find out what was happening. Take care to you too and maybe it’s worth phoning hospital to check your referral is there?

  • hi laney

    Appreciate your reply

I thought my `pains` were part of my ME / CFS, so did not really think they would be anything else, cos got sick of being told ` its the CFS / ME / FM`.  We also had a lot of upset with my dad recently being very ill very quickly and subsequently being diagnosed with leukemia - thankfully all is going well for him at the moment, with monthly check ups etc.  I had pelvic pain, which i put down to pelvic arthritis issues, hip arthirtis etc, but then started with agonising pain in my rectum at the same time as the frontal area.  When pains were bad i had frontal discharge which was pinky, and not pleasant.  I went to GP and had an ultrasound which showed a polylp and thickening of the endometria / womb lining .  Went for hysteroscopy, the polyp was too large to take out in an outpatients setting, so did biopsies.  A week later got a call on a friday aft to see consultant on monday.  Told womb cancer, biopsies `very abnormal` - treatment  needed within a 4 week period.  Went for MRI to see if spread to other pelvic areas , etc, thankfully has not.  Got my pre-op date and pencilled in surgery date - all just one day over the 4 wek period.   Hoping the hysterectomy can be done by key-hole, quicker recovery etc .  Thanks for your response, take care, x

  • I'm waiting for biopsy results so not been offered anything else, I'm worried like all on here, the waiting is agonising, I'm just *** off that the gyny consultant said my vaginal scan showed a polyp 10mm yet during hysteroscopy he said theres no polyp but I need a biopsy? I kept asking him, what is it then if it's not a polyp, he was almost ignoring me and just said that I'd get results through the post.

I suffer with anxiety anyway so some sort of answer from him would have been nice

  • I was referred for trans vaginal scan and abdo scan in late october, I saw gyny consultant mid november, my hysteroscopy was last monday, with the veiw of just removing a polyp.

During hysteroscopy he said theres no polyps but needed a biopsy, I kept asking what it was he was taking biopsy from if theres no polyp, he basically ignored me, took biopsy then walked out the room, the nurses were lovely and I asked them the same question, they were evasive too and confirmed my address for biopsy results to be sent to?

Theres obviously something on the lining of my womb? But definitly not a polyp or fibroid? I'm so confused and scared

  • Hi there did he mention anything about the lining being thickened I had the same last ur and had biopsies which all came bk ok try not to worry. Of course I've not been so lucky this time ! X

  • So sorry to hear what your going through, the radiologist said something about thickening but said probably a polyp, yet consultant during hysteroscopy said no polyp.

Do they do biopsy as matter of fact or if they see something?

  • I was told my ovaries and cervix was ok at-ultrasound then at hysteroscopy was told oh it’s 3 polyps and thickened lining and booked me in for op.  Then day before op I gt called bk to see consultant to be told bad news.  It’s so worrying isn’t it’s  xx

  • Sorry to hear that

Sorry for so many questions, did they take biopsy at hysteroscopy? Or were u booked in for op regardless just by what they saw?

  • Yes they took biopsies at hysteroscopy booked me infor op which I didn’t have before the results are bk.  I’m having total hysterectomy def before Xmas x

  • So sorry that your going through this, I hope  you have lots of support
